Just wondering if anyone here runs any customer database software.

At one of my previous employers we used 4D database which stored contact details, quotes, work caried out ect

You could run queries on it such as all jobs by joe bloggs

Im thinking it may be handy, especialy if someone phones up and says "remember that job you did for me 3yrs 2months ago..", then you can just check the DB.

Chris.

I have archived invoices and can search on customer names etc - is this what you mean? It is custom built and web based.

Sort of, this one that we used was a bit more extensive though, we all had to enter data into it on every job we did.

Repair time
Spares used
Description of work done
Status of job e.g. awaiting spares, quoted, ready for collection

Everything in the company was tied into it even the accounts and stock taking.

I think the big wigs used it to create funky pie charts too.

Something like that could be easily coded for a web beased system - the guys over at www.splash21.com are developing my custom shop (includes orders/marketing/advertising etc)

Chris, not familiar with 4D but I would think that just about any CRM database will fulfil your requirements For instance try salesforce.com

If you get stuck, I am quite happy to build an access database. Pm me with requirements and we can haggle over sheckles.
