Anyone here a CTA?

what advice would you give to someone looking to move into Tax (from an accounting/audit background) who wishes to do CTA?

i.e. it is really as hard as they say it is!

Well according to HMRC - tax doesn't have to be taxing.

But we all know how wrong that is - so yes it is tough going

Depending on what qualifications you already hold, it may help to look into the ATT before CTA.

Have you taken the tax exams as part of your accountancy qualifications and did you do well in those exams?

If you did well in the tax part of the accountancy exams then you should be able to complete the CTA exams. The main difference between the accountancy tax exams and the CTA exams is that you cover a much broader range of tax for CTA and there is far more information to remember.

Your user name suggest that you are still a student so you should be aware that the entry requirements for CTA are that you are a qualified accountant, solicitor or barrister or have passed the ATT exams. (You should check on the CIOT website as these requirements may have changed since I last looked at them)

The ATT exams are a good starting place if you are not sure about the CTA.
