Hi all :)

I started a business last year and shortly after I put everything on hold and went travelling. I've just got back and there's a letter from Company's House, dated over a month ago; Dissolution First Gazette. It was a formal notice informing me that incase I tell them otherwise, my company will be dissolved!

I assume this is because I haven't filed any returns. I'm filing them as soon as HMRC send me an 'activation code' in the post *rolls eyes* but upon checking my company status on Company's House, I see the status is 'Active - Proposal to Strike off'.

How can I avoid this? Would it just take filing my overdue return?

The HMRC code is for filing corporation tax returns. You don't need it to file at Companies House. In fact, if your annual return is the only document outstanding you can't use the HMRC code for filing this

You need the company authentication code directly from Companies House and you also need to register for webfiling of documents. Given that the notice is a month old it's best to ring Companies House to let them know that you want to keep the company and check the exact requirements - probably just the annual return.

And "Roll eyes" because HMRC send documents in the post is unfair. Do you really expect them to give details relating to your company over the phone or email them? They have to be sent by post to the company address.
