Hi All,

Global Publications Ltd earlier this week decided to take down its corporate website of 6 years www.commerce.co.uk and replace it with an advertising concept which was thought up by University student Alex Tew late last year. The decision to remove all its content wasn't an easy one as the site generated over £35,000 in advertising revenue each year and was home to over 58,000 companies.

If you want to advertise your company to millions for less than £0.6p per day i suggest you grab some space on the www.commerce.co.uk home page whilst you can.

Your advertisement will be displayed on the Commerce.co.uk home page for a minimum of 5 years + you also get listed within the Commerce Online Business Directory and receive affiliate tools to earn extra money etc

And why, prey-tell, if you had such a succesful advertising site would you do that and replace it with a 'another' pixel advert site?

I have to agree with tom here.

What a waste of a vary valuable domain name.

I personally think if you somd it, you may get more than the pixel value.?

That's one of the few domain names that would almost certainly sell for a LOT of money!

If it was mine I'd flog it and spend a tiny percentage on a holiday to try to derive some inspiration to come up with some - dare I say "fresh" or "original" ideas - for how to make money on the web. The selling pixels thing has come and gone, IMHO.

I my opinion it is the equivilent to microsoft deciding to put a pixel page on www.microsoft.com
because of the sheer value that the domain name www.commerce.co.uk holds, it is so uneconomical......especially with one 800 pixel advert on it. ( figures true at last time of checking)

Ebay it....i reckon you would make £1m+

Interesting to know what some of the domain name guys, like crus think of it's potential value ?

Any idea if this site will be worth adding a logo to? £100 is a lot for a small logo but I'm always looking for ways to improve my hits and links in

I have done some research, and it gets some traffic.
Alexa rating of about 350,000

Also recently had a sharp increase of inbound links. But not a massive amount in total.
Google Page rank of 4

It is all down to whether you feel the traffic it gets will benefit your business.?

Hi creospace,

I will briefly explain. The advertising revenue was generated purely via PPC which was listed throughout the site e.g, incorporated into our business directory and other functionality etc. Although the design has dramatically changed we have still tried to keep some of the original mechanics with the added twist of the pixel advertising merged with directory listings.

I'm actually looking forward to see how this all pans out, if our first sale of £800 is anything to go by i expect great things ahead.

As like some pixel sites we are not prepared to create false advertisers to make the site look busy as we believe we can make things work without using such techniques. (only time will tell really)

I know 100% if www.commerce.co.uk wasn't my site and saw advertising space being sold on the home page for less than £0.6p a day with a guaranteed life span of 5 years, I'd snap it up for sure! I'm not saying its an absolute bargain but its a start... not to mention a great way to increase visitors to your website via linking in.

Over the next few days traffic to commerce will rocket even more so as we actively market - Watch this space.
