Hi There,

Any help or advice would be appreciated, I am looking to visit China in the next month and possibly Vietnam depending on the replies posted on here I suppose.
We are specifically looking for Factories that can tailor make a suit to a certain specification, we will provide the style details, measurements and fabric details.
We are expecting orders from 10-15 a week increasing to 50-100 a week after a pump of money into advertising. Each order will be a different specification and therefore not a case of buying in bulk but a case of building a good reliable relationship with the factory that can provide the service needed.
Any advice, good websites or company recommendations are welcome.
Also feel free to PM if preferred.
Look forward to all your comments
Thanks
Charlotte

Thanks WOWgiftChina, I know the quantity is small but could potentially increase to 1000's a week. As we are not buying bulk we are expecting to pay a little higher price than that paid for bulk buying.
I am interested in contacting any factories that maybe be able to fulfil our request.
Kind Regards
Charlotte

The majority of Chinese factories will either not be interested in these volumes or simply won't have the skill set.

If anywhere though, your best starting point will probably be HK and from there you may find links into the Chinese mainland.

There are plenty of good besoke tailors in Tsim Sha Tsui that cater for the tourist market who may also be interested in working with you. It's just a question of finding the right one.

You'll have to keep a very close eye on QC though.

    Hello Charlotte,

Frankly, the thought of managing the QC on this would terrifies me. There are so many things that can go wrong with made to measure items. And how would the QC person check every aspect?

My advice is that you must have a QC person in China who fully understands what you want. Think on this - real story - ordered a container of 450 blue chairs from China. Each chair is made up of say 100 components. Arrive in UK, to find out they are covered in green fabric. Factory viewpoint - so we got one out of 100 items wrong, almost perfect.

Hope this little story gives you a hint of the difficulties you will face.

I assume you will airfreight as customers wont wait 6 weeks for a suit? Very expensive if you have to order a replacement suit for one that was not made correctly.

These are not insurmountable problems, but very important ones to deal with.

    best wishes

    Charlotte,

Frankly at the beginning the quantity is small, but as going forward, the 50-100 a week is good.

May be I can introduce some garment factories for you. However, as they say, the QC part is the most important, which is to ensure everything you pay for is exactly what you want.

I am Nick in China, if you need help pls feel free to contact me via PM.

    Hello Charlotte,

We also run a small factory in China. Frankly speaking, few factories can make the custom suit for you as the cost is too high.

Maybe it's better to find a workshop with 3-5 sewing workers to handle it. There are lots of workshops here.

For the QC, fabric & sewing quality are not a problem. The only issue is the fitting. It's hard to control the fitting even if the measurement is completely the same as you requested.

Thanks for all your advice, it seems a reoccurring theme regarding the QC in China, which is worrying. Maybe I'll post a similar question but referring to Vietnam see what the outcome there is.
    Thanks all!

    Vietnam Is worse !

It's where China was 10 years ago.

Realistically, and has been mentioned already, China is not for the quantites you are initially after (even given that your quantities may increase in time).

You should look at it as follows:

If it can go wrong, It will go wrong !
