Bonded Warehousing

Can anyone explain the benefits of using a bonded warehouse when importing alcohol from the EU when you plan on selling it straight from retail premises. My supplier in Belgium has recommended this route, it's a new venture, but I fail to see the benefits if I don't intend to store prior to sale.

Can anyone explain or the most viable way of importing beer from the EU? It would only be small scale 2/3 pallets per week.

With bonded warehousing, the goods in question can be imported into the UK and held under HMRC bond for an indefinite amount of time without the excise duty being paid. this is paid, once the goods are removed from the bond for general sale.

As such, it would only really be an advantage to you if you were buying in large quantities to gain better pricing.

    Thanks for that.

Is the only viable alternative for importing smaller quantities then using a TRC scheme? I've been warned against this as it makes things less flexible with last min amended orders/quantities etc.

I'm beginning to see why people look to wholesalers rather than taking the direct route!
