We're looking for help with our social media channels, adwords and digital marketing in general.

We're a small co. so thinking a freelancer rather than an agency. Firstly is this a good idea, and secondly, what's the best way of finding a decent freelancer?

    Thanks in advance.

Surely if they're a good social media marketing "person or company" they should have a pretty good social media profile and presence. You can have a look at some business directories or just google "Social media freelancer in <Your town>"

It's a really good point @fc-ramon made above. They should have a great social media profile that attracts exactly the sort of clients they need and that need them.

All I would add is that if you find a freelancer for anything on UpWork, or any similar site, if they say "I prefer to work outside of Upwork/<whatever platform>" say No. There's some level of protection, accountability and reputation for you as a client by going through them properly.

Completely the opposite is true. Nobody who's any good is going to be spending their time messing about with their own social media accounts; they'll be too busy with client work.
