Be Brutal Please!

Oh bless you ... I don't like the idea of being brutal, you've obviously put a lot of time in to design.

My only problem is I have issues with things that move, it's a purely personnal thing ... lots of people like fancy moving things. The teddy etc do look great but when I'm concentrating on buying things I find that kind of thing annoying ... mostly because I'm usually tired and in a hurry.

The main part of the page comes out as a kind of sage green colour on my PC which is a bit yucky but again that might just be me.

Having said all that I'll note the site down in my diary for September and if you have sky scraper or 120 x 120 banners I'll be interested in joining your affiliate scheme to add to my baby shopping directory.

Best of luck

Hi Paul, (I haven't looked at technical things)

The flash explanation intro uses the word "mailed" rather than "posted" and i found the font on personalised gifts difficult to read.

Its presumably OS commerce ??? Was it difficult to set up ?

Hi Paul - amongst other things the total size of htl and images is way too high.

It's over 400k which would take over a minute and a half on a 56k modem - even on my 2Mb connection it took 20 seconds - which maybe my ISP, maybe your webhost but either way I wouldnt normally wait this long for a webpage - nor will others - theyll just think the site is broken or down.

Reducing this will have the biggest impact on your sales above just about anything else I can think of or see on the site.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Interesting site, nice and original. First thing my other half said when seeing on my screen was 'awww that's cute'. I think you'll definately attract your target audience.

My only critisms:

- Not too sure on the green background

- Too many colours, fonts and sizes of text at the start

- I would move the flash animation above the text. People are more likely to watch the animation rather than read the text

- Underneath the Flash image (if moved above text) I would add a few products - then follow this with the text - and finally the remaining products

Nice site though, best of luck.

Hi

I like the design and it says clearly what you do which is good.

My first thought was to move the demo about the cards further up the page but then thought not as search engines can't read flash and as the top graphic is also flash this will just push the text which the search engines love much further down the page.

I'm with Sue F on moving things, they are very distracting, although very cute.

Having said that, I really like the demo graphic, it clearly shows visitors exactly how to create a card.

Good luck

Too much animation.

Too much text (which was made all the more hard to read because of the eye distracting animation

I saw the killer phrase "Welcome Guest, would you like to log yourself in," This would send me running even though I appreciate that for your product being registered is probably one of the few times it's worth it. For instance I use moonpig a lot.

Text in left hand menu very small and hard to read.

To be really brutal, I don't see anything here that would make me stop shopping at moonpig. The only thing about their cards is I think you could under cut them on price, but your range is very limited (everyone has to start somewhere I suppose).

Why not make your logo double as a click to the home page - this is largely expected these days and your home button was hard to find.

Thanks for that. Moonpig has great site. Yes our range is very limited but will expand over time. The site will soon have our personalised teddy bears for sale and cutomers buying our bears will be offered free personalised cards and we will use the cards as a marketing tool for the bears.
Thanks again guys keep it comming!

firefox web designers tool bar is very good -just google for it.

It allows you to view the page with images/css/flash etc turned off and on. Image sizes and the like.

And the good thing is - for anyweb page not just ones you may have designed...

just google for it

Cute website. I like the friendly color scheme. 1 suggestion for your products, why not place your graphics into a 3D card? (I hope that makes sense), On photoshop, you can use the perceptive tool to place the graphic at an angle (press edit > transform > perceptive and pull the right corner). I think it would help because it will make your products look more like real items than just graphics.

I hope that helps.
