I wouldn't bother with anything automated. If you are going to get results do it the long, old fashioned way. You could find yourself doing more harm than good if the software in question submitted you to 'spam' directories and this DOES happen.

Take the time to research good free and paid directories - not only for good, authorotive backlinks, but also to actually drive targeted traffic to your website. Some examples of good 'trusted directories' are as follows (in my opinion)

www.dmoz.org
www.botw.org
www.skaffe.com
www.joeant.com
www.business.com
www.gimpsy.com
www.incrawler.com
www.turnpike.net
http://uk.dir.yahoo.com/
www.buzzle.com

That should get you started. Good luck and you can find an even more comprehensive list here: http://www.avivadirectory.com/strongest-directories/

Do you really need to ask the question?

Automated directory submission is a complete waste of time and doing it manually isn't that much better as 99% of them are useless.

Don't use any of the directory lists that abound as all you will get is generic sites, what you need is the niche, local and specialist directories. These take time to uncover but the rewards are worth it.
