We are registered for VAT in Germany and applied for EORI number as we want to send our stock from England to Amazon FBA Warehouses in Germany.

We need a Euro EORI number to do this as we have to act as the importer (rather than Amazon).

This was declined by German tax authorities because we are already registered in Northern Ireland with an XI number. They say this is an EU EORI number and therefore cant issues another.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

And if So does anyone know if we can use a OUR NI XI number to import into Germany?

    Thanks!

    Hi Aussie,
You can of course use your XI EORI number for imports into any EU member state, you can check this by visiting the EU EORI validation website (I'd post a link but new here so unable to!!).

You'll find your EORI number is valid with an XI prefix but same number with GB will be invalid.

I assume you have your German VAT number set up with your UK business so probably classed as non-domicile VAT registration so they will not issue another EORI number for the same entity.

The next problem you may find is that most clearance business require you to be established in the customs territory before they will act on your behalf so using the XI EORI number may not be enough!

Hope this sheds some light on this for you but doubt it helps - sorry :)

Hi Aussie Dean, technically yes this is correct - You can only have one EU EORI number and a XI (Northern Ireland) EORI is valid in the EU.

However as per many Brexit related things the XI EORI is causing some confusion with some EU customs authorities allowing a second EU EORI number to be issued.
