I would like to experiment with a linkbuilding service to supplement my own efforts. Has anyone any suggestions?

Anyone used paul & angela's or 10-links-a-day for example?

Anyone know anywhere to buy blogrolls?

Cheers for any info. Would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Zac.

The Paul & Angela link systems are a farce. As 99% of link building companies' practices.

They will claim to build links from high PR pages but in truth all it is, is setting up hundreds of accounts on forums and social networks and linking back to your website in the profile description, the page itself containing your link, being a PR0. (They just use the homepage/domain PR to lure suckers in).

And truth be told, PR shouldn't be worried about anyway. Nothing beats a quality, high relevancy, topical link to an appropriate/related page of a site.

Good luck experimenting though, I wouldn't hold your breathe however.

There have been so many times over the years when we've seen clients go and employ the services of link-building companies - both local and offshore - to be ultimately disappointed.

Sometimes they see a lift in the rankings of several of their key words within a month or two. But in nearly all cases, the lift is temporary. Occasionally this is because the link networks are 'uncovered' by the search engines and devalued. In other cases, the links are just not relevant enough to provide a lasting boost.

Nowadays link-building, in the context that we are talking about, is even more an anachronism as the search experience is far more multi-dimensional, incorporating video, news and social media.

The key issue here is to note that any form of ethical link building irrelevant of volume will still not acheive overnight success.

I think that as long as the website (from a technical SEO and on page SEO) is sound - like the last comment "if its not woth linking to then no one will", then your link building needs to consist of both quality and quantity.

Don't go and link farm - it may acheive quick results, but you will leave a footprint that big it will be visible from space and if Google dont spot it be sure that one of your competitors will submit a spam report and you will be sunk!!

What I mean by quality vs quantity is the fact that you are not going to get 100's of links from the BBC or the likes, assuming you are not of Barclays/Selfridges etc size, you would be lucky to get 1 - but these links will generally carry the most value, they need to be supported;

Link Reclamation

Link Bait

There are other means but that is off the top of my head and would build a substancial campaign targeting, like I said, quality (those at the bottom of the list) vs quantity (those few at the top). And equal focus needs to be placed on all of these to ensure not only the success of a campaign but also the longevity.

There are so many people that write off directories but let me tell you we do it on behalf of 60+ clients and it works - yes it is not going to get you top listings like it would have 5 years ago hammering one term and focusing on just this, but it certainly and significantly supports a rounded campaign focusing on varied keyword based anchor text.

Great answer.

Can you expand on the value of link reclamation?

Thanks

What you will find - quite often is that you can have a great deal of links that can have incorrect anchor text, no anchor text or worst of all broken links.

This is where link reclamation comes in to play.

We have worked with some big online players where their link profile has been near perfect (or so it seems on the outside), but when really looking in to the links it turns out that the urls they once sat on have been retired/deleted - although somewhat of a time consuming process, you could have a well ranking blog, that previously provided x amount of 100's of links that are all sat on a dead page - therefore by contacting webmasters these could be reclaimed and the URL's adjusted, all of a sudden you have a 100 links back, from good PR, with varied anchor text BRILLIANT!

On the other side is the anchor text reclamation - where there has been a sole focus on one term, or no anchor text at all - approaching webmaster in order to insert variety and also something if nothing is there.
