Anyone in the food business? (Selling your own)

I had a fleeting thought in my head this morning; I enjoy cooking low carb - 'paleo' food. I've devised and tweaked a recipe for chocolate brownies which are amazingly delicious, and a few others agree (some even more so than 'normal' brownies).

Anyway, not that it's something I plan to do, but, would it be possible to make a business out of home-made foods, low-carb is a niche, but me, average joe has not seen any in the supermarkets, not that i've looked. I'd certainly buy low carb brownies!

Quite busy with my design and photo work, but I may look into it briefly. I do recall someone on here who sells cupcakes?

I suppose it's like anything, as long as people know about it, and like it, they'll buy it. Just wondered if there were any 'started from home' then branched out cooks/bakers!

Talk about pipeline project!

All food businesses started out small and grew, Heinz, Kelloggs et al. One of my key clients started out 20 years ago as a classic garage startup and they are now market leader in their niche. IMHO, there is always room for new products (and business models) in the food industry, even mainstream ones like chocolates, pizzas, etc. but your idea sounds unique enough to have an even better chance. Sounds good. But, do you have the motivation to have a go and put the right commitment into it?

I am unusually intrigued and inspired at the prospect. I know in the US there is a relatively niche market for low-carb foods. But I have not seen any (or many) products in supermarkets (or on the web infact) for strictly low carb foods.

Nice idea. However the Food Police will enforce very strict hygiene standards. This will mean very high capital costs, which may never come back to you. Also when products are made on a vast scale they become homoginized and bland. So what tastes good in your kitchen at home will change beyond recognition after going through a factory..

I was thinking of a grass roots style business, and sending them out to customers in my own special packaging , along with a personal note. This probably won't be for a few years yet, but I reccon people would eat them up, from what i've seen online the low-carb stuff is up and coming.
