Another Website Review

I haven't asked for a review of our main website www.devilwear.co.uk for a while so I'll ask now It's been pretty much the same since last November but I have recently added some side banners, changed the heading and added some logos on the front page.

What do you think?

why is drop shipping at the top of your left hand menu? and wholesale is also mentioned.

This implies to your retail customers that you are not interested in them and they are reminded that you make a good profit out of them.

Otherwise, so much better than the last site. most images are good but it's still an area to work on as new lines come in.

I really like you 'Get ready to save' line in conjunction with the discounted clothing and sunglasses tagline above.

I'm not sure why the product details are not present on the details page. Why have two pages for the same product? It's confusing.

I've just realised that I had not clicked for details I had added the product to cart and didn't even realise it. I was not aware that I was even in the shopping cart. This was confusing.

Do a usability study to see if anyone else has this problem.

I notice you can choose not to register when buying, great, but I am concerned that it says you need to log in if you have shopped before. I wonder if this leads to problems for people who can't remember their login or the email address they used when purchasing previously or can't even remember if they have bought from you before - this does happen.

I have just clicked on your website and it does not appear correct in my Internet Explorer. The main content seems to be under the left nav, and the right nav under the main content! I use Internet Explorer 6.

Maybe you need to test how the website displays in different browsers?

It's not displaying correctly for me either.

I have browsed your site before tho' and did add it to my favorites, when I'm rich enough to afford designer clothes I'll probably pop along as I'd feel more than happy to purchase through the site.

Thanks for pointing out the problem with IE. This happened when i added the logos on the main page. I added all 12 logos as one line and Firefox automatically realised that it couldn't fit the 12 images all on one line so it broke it into 3 lines of 4. IE is so stoopid that instead of doing this it just decided to push the whole content down until it found a space big enough. Anyway, easy fix, just had to separate the line manually.

As for the dropshipping link, at the moment dropshipping takes up about 50% of all of the sales received so it is probably one of the best things to promote. Plus it's not intentional that it appears at the top, it's just in alphabetical order.

Luckily, most of the new lines that come in are sunglasses and I am provided with library images as I'm not that good taking pictures. I do spend a bit more time trying to get that picture a little bit better.

The tagline and slogan etc have just been added so I'm glad to you like them.

If you've ordered before and have forgotton your password then there is a forgotton password feature. If you can't remember which email address you used, you can register again. I also like the fact that you don't have to register as I know a lot of people don't like doing that.

Out of interest, I have another question for you: Are you OK with entering details such as address and email address into the unsecure site? Personally, I only look to see if the site is secure when entering payment details and my site does direct you to a secure page when entering card details (uses protx) or pay through Paypal. In the 2 years this site has been up I have only ever been asked if the site was secure once - then i told them that the payment page was and they were fine with that. Just been offered a good deal on an ssl and wondering whether it's worth taking it up.

I thought the reason the home page was blank was because you had yet to add product images but I see now you have filled it with waffle and some still rather dodgy product logos which, while better than your previous batch still look fuzzy.

I had to scroll down to see the prodcts I'm actually interested in.

So my impression of your home page has gone down since your content has been put in! ha ha.

back to your security question. As long as the card details page is secure then thats ok, although personally, our whole checkout is secure.

You said only one person ever asked. I have had far more queries on it than that and I believe it is incredibly important that the padlock and https is displayed - you would certianly notice a drop in sales if you didn't have this.
