Is it possible to add text below the products. Adding text above is easy enough using a CMS block - any way to get this shown below the products?

Yes this is possible, is this for the category list page rather than the product detail page?
And do you want different text per category (sub category)

Do you still want the top text on the category page? and have a new area for the bottom text?
    Or
do you want to simply move the top text to the bottom instead?

As always with Magento there are several ways to achieve this.

Thanks Mark, It is for the category List page. What I want is a small amount of text at the top in point form, maybe 4 lines with a more detailed information on the bottom. I don't want the punter to have to wade through a lot of text to get to the product. A point is at the top and if he wants more then he goes to the bottom. Does that sound sensible?

Have you though about having a show more / hide button to expand and show the rest of the text on click?

But yes it is feasible but will require a few code / template changes.. i can advise you how to do it if you want.
