Hi, I have a reasonably successful track record in business and I'm thinking about creating a company to offer seo/ppc services. I'd welcome some feedback on the following issues.
- is this a profitable market sector to be in?
- assuming plenty of energy, tenacity etc, how difficult is it to pick up clients?
- as google and others evolve, are there any surprises in store for businesses in this market sector ?
- should I focus on businesses operating in a specific sector (e.g. hotels) or should i target all sectors?
- which of the competitors' business models are worth looking at?
- are there other issues that I've not picked up on?
Thanks in anticipation of any comments.

Do you actually know anything about SEO and PPC because from your posting it sure as hell doesn’t sound like it? That’s not going to inspire much confidence in your potential customers!

Specialising is always a better strategy - that way you are able to give more specific examples of your benefits in your literature to give confidence to potential clients. It is also easier to build a brand when you specialise in a specific segment of the market.

On the other hand, you really should know a lot about SEO and/or PPC if you intend to offer these services. Having a track record in business is one thing, but having a track record in SEO/PPC is certainly a completely different issue. Have you thought about offering business consultancy services? From what you say, this would be a better option - it would allow you to focus on providing your expertise on what you know best.

In terms of what Google may have in store for SEO consultants in the future, they are always changing their algorithm, adding new features and changing what works in SEO. What works one day may not work the next, but if you have good quality content and the means to get people to engage with it, you will do well regardless of how Google change their algorithms.

Whilst I would agree in general, I am not sure about SEO companies. Especially one man bands like this one appears to be. I assume that an SEO consultant is hired to promote a web site and improve its rankings and positions in the search engines. To do better than the web sites competitors. So if you specialise in one sector, how do you avoid a conflict between clients?

Perhaps if the sector is hotels, then you can have one per town.
