Quickbooks Simple Start is apparently availiable free of charge for the next few days.

I had an email from Quickbooks - if any one wants a free copy of the software if you email me I will gladly forward the email to you so that you can also download a free copy.

My email address is nicola @ hjcca .co .uk

    Is this any good?

Do you have to buy add ons or upgrade every year?

    I have the same problem:

Maybe you don't need the codes, but I don't want to install until I know one way or the other because I'm only mildly curious about this product anyway.

As an accountant I'd say yes Quickbooks Simplestart isnt a bad bit of software. Their are so many packages on the market alot is down to personal preference.

You dont need to buy add ons as such but Quickbooks do have 'next step' on packages for users wanting more features. At this point in my opinion QB starts to get expensive. If you look on their website they have a product comparison showing all the features.

You dont have to upgrade each year.

We had a mailshot from Quickbooks a couple of days ago with a price increase for the full simplestart program but they're about to do a free downloadable version with limited number of customers & suppliers - not sure what the restriction is - they used to do a freebie CD restricted to 20 customers & suppliers so that may be the same - probably fine for small simple businesses.

    Just found the QB letter.

Simplestart price is doubling to a whopping £90 (download) or £100 (CD).

    BUT

They are bringout out a new version, "Simple Start Free Starter Edition" which is a free download. Their letter doesn't say what the restrictions will be, but they do say "a great way to try .... at no cost" so that suggests either a free time limited trial or a free version with limitations of numbers of transactions, customers or suppliers.

Payroll is increasing to a whopping £20 per month but QB Pro is reduced to £250.

I, for one, am getting the feeling that QB have lost any sense of direction - first the 2008 version fiasco, then these weird pricing structure changes. There was a time when there was consistency and structure, but it does appear that they're running around like headless chickens at the moment.
