I was at my grandads the other day and we were talking about the cost of petrol and how in his day.... lol

It got me thinking how much it costs me per mile as i should probably have a rough idea of this seen as im self employed and my accountant says i can claim back some of the money.

So i was thinking how do i work this out.

I thought it would be Price per ltr x 4.5 (litres in a gallon) / number of miles to the gallon?

    Is that correct?

i understand that, thats what got me thinking how much it actually costs me per mile.

From what i can gather it only costs me about 15-20p per mile.

Im curious as to why i can claim back double that.
