Advertising and selling through edirectory

    Have any of you folks had any experience of selling products through eDirectory?

    I've been contacted by them asking if I'd like to sign up but the costs seem to be quite hig, i.e. an annual premium followed by a commission on all sales.

    I know other companies in this market sell through eDirectory but obviously I don't know what volumes they are able to sell through this website and therefore don't know whether it is worth the money or not.

    Have any of you had any experience of this? I would appreciate your thoughts.

    We've been on eDirectory for a month now and not had a single order.

    We paid a large premium and agreed to a commission, don't accept their first offer on the premium to get listed.

    Your products may be more suitable for their market, ours don't seem very popular at all.

    They have offered to promote our products through their site if I give them a list of the most popular and any special offers I have, which I will probably take them up on but at the moment I am not very impressed.

    HI,

    Never heard of them before you told me! If you were looking for the absolute cheapest wouldn't you just Kelkoo it rather than go to an e-directory?

    Do you think this is the best place for your product anyway? I'm sure theres some parenting / baby magazines somewhere or baby clothes shops. Could you sell them through a baby clothes shop?

    Do the maths and talk to other people on edirectory to see if it works for them.

    We did this and we are not on edirectory.

    I have a colleague with a top lingerie site and he did £10,000 in 6 months through them and he was happy - but he does a lot of special offers and really makes these work. He could drive down the commission at that rate.

    a cost effective way of promoting your site would be to get yourself an affiliate program. Big established networks can charge a lot but you could try PaidonResults.com or even do your own which would certainly reward the input in time and money. Expect to pay around 7-10% commission to your affiliates plus a monthly cost and override to a network.

    You did 100 orders last year which is a good start. You will do more this year with your new look alone but you are really at the very beginning and should look to save your pennies. Edirectory is an expensive gamble for you.

    I would also consider what makes your shirts different to those sold on the other funky baby clothes sites and play to these Unique selling points.

    Afternoon Mrs Sillyjokes,

    As usual your response raises good points. I've done the maths and we'd need to sell about 20 orders a month through edirectory to break even over the year from this sales channel. it's a gamble as you say but maybe a gamble worth taking..... if other companies in the market are getting all the orders due to lack of competition, maybe we should have a slice of this particular pie. If we sell 100 a month we are quids in, if we sell none, we will be crying into our pints...

    Regarding the Kelkoo comment from Whistle Ink, I personally don't think Kelkoo works well for this type of thing. It's great for buying digital cameras where you are comparing like with like but comparing designs with differing costs is less of kelkoo's thing. Of course, I could be wrong (as is often the case).

    and the baby clothes shop has always been an idea but we consider ourselves as being a true internet operation. Again, maybe this is worth more thought.

    and as for affiliates...... I shall have to get my thinking cap on and investigate some more.

    My advice would be to initially only participate in marketing where you pay for results, whether it is per click or per sale, certainly to start with. There are a lot of options in this arena, and you should get your products on all of those before forking out for setup fees. We haven't yet signed up to eDirectory because I couldn't see the value compared to Kelkoo etc, but we now have a good deal on the table which means I may reconsider. I'm still loathe to pay out anything as a setup fee up front though, and then you still have to process orders manually or do some integration work to automate it. A lot of work and all you seem to do is pay - rather use the setup fee you would have paid to advertise on Google.

    Also, don't be put off by so-called comparison sites like Kelkoo - it costs nothing but a bit of time to get your products listed, so do it! Remember that all these listings also appear on search engines so you get double the exposure. If we can sell ties through Kelkoo, I don't see why you can't sell baby clothing!

    Can anyone tell me what Kellco charge for the keyword "lingerie" ?

    I have had my lingerie website for nearly a year now. I am on edirectory, sales started slow but are picking up. I was told it takes a while for the keywords to get indexed by google. It's tough out there and my adwords campain costs me almost as much as I am making. At least with edirectory once you have paid up, you have another sourse of sales that has been paid for. I shall decide at the end of my year with them weather it's worth renewing.
