    Anyone else slightly peturbed at the new terms and conditions facebook have introduced which basically gives them ownership of any pictures you place on their servers?

    Had a chat with a few on twitter about it, and my understanding of it was that even if you delete the various pictures and logos you have on your profile, they remain on the server and by placing them there originally, you give facebook permission to re-use them without having your permission.

    It has therefore been suggested that by placing only low res pics on there, that would be of no use to them etc ...

    I don't think their terms and conditions are legally enforceable in the UK anyway.

    I think under the Data Protection Act, they would need to remove the pictutes which you delete after a certain amount of time (ie they are no longer required by the organisation).

    Also, they try to exclude themselves from negligence right at the end.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but there is no legal exemption from negligence (not in Scots law anyway :D).

    I Don't think its anything to worry about. We deal with a lot of fine art work. We scan the artist images and we keep copies on our system. So we have the ownership rights of the image file that is one the disk. But like facebook, we do not own the copyright of the images or the type.
