IT is very important for my business as we are virtual and rely on the internet/email enormously.

We use: Office XP (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint, Access) Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, MSN Messenger, Netmeeting, Dreamweaver MX, Sage Instant, FTP, Firefox, antivirus & spy detector software, Printer/scanner/fax software, PDA software, Netgear software, the list goes on!

For someone "Still learning about creating a Traditional dating servies company. " you are asking some strange questions.

This question is in the "how long is a piece of string" category. It depends. There is such a wide range of businesses represented on this forum I doubt you can get to a useful picture.

Clearly people would not be on this forum if they did not think IT was important to their business as they can only get to this forum using IT. However, IT is an enabler only (with the exception of the businesses whose end product is IT related of course).

However, I think for most businesses on this forum:
  • A wordprocessort (mostly Word but also open source)
  • A spreadsheet (mostly Excel but also open source)
  • Email application
  • Web browser
  • Some kind of accounts/invoicing package if spreadsheet not good enough
  • Some kind of customer database for some businesses

after that .... well just about anything depending on the nature of the business. CAD packages and graphics packages come to mind. Lucy (LAM Design) uses a number of different programmes for creating sewing patterns and embroidery patterns (including some that convert photographs).

Why do you want to know?

Hi!!

What do yo think whether IT are important for yor business. What programs do you use?

My general response for your general question :) IT is a core of business process organisation. It's your way to success only if you can find valuable info. This way is volatile because of IT market changes grossly. You have to improve your business process all the time if you want to be successful, IT gives you this possibility, creates the environment and integrates your business in a single whole.

I use DOS a lot. Besides this, I use a couple of specific CodeEditors, Photoshop, Fireworks, PhotoImpact, Apache w/ MySQL, PHP, and some custom written database app's. It depends completely on what you're doing. Maybe you could elaborate as to what it is you do / are thinking of doing, and we could help you more?
