    I've registered but do have a few suggestions:

    maybe have paypal or someother payment system as well as cheques etc?

    your control panel keeps logging everyone out everytime one clicks on it even though am logged in?

    more information maybe put on the control panel?

    Welcome to the UKBF.

    I've looked at your site and it shows great potential. If you wish to have any feedback I would suggest losing the dodgey animated gifs from the featured listings and break down the left hand category listings (I'm afraid to say it, but take some pointers from ebay). At the moment the front page looks a little too busy.

    Hi Richard
    I've taken your advice and removed the animated gifs from the featured listings on my home page. I must admit it looks a lot better and will load faster. As for the categories I will see what I can come up with, thanks again for your advice it was much appreciated!

    Why?

    That is, why another auction site? What is wrong with ebay, qxl, etc. Is there room for another generic auction site?

    How do you plan to make money if you charge no fees. Keeping the systems running, protecting security and maintaining fairplay is an expensive business.

    Who are you? I looked for an About link but could not find one. Hopefully I just missed it. I am not going to register though without knowing more.

    Having said that, the site looks impressive. Have you used one of the off-the-shelf software packages and customised it or built it from scratch?

    I do plan to charge at some stage, but at the moment it would not be a good idea
    I think I will wait until the membership gets higher and listings are sold on a daily basis.

    No there is no "About Us" at the moment on the site.

    because I was at the top of most search engines. I'm now trying to get auction1.co.uk known by all on the internet
    only time will tell if it will be successful.

    I got one of those off-the-shelf software packages as you say, but have customised it myself with the help of other software users.
    i.e. what code to add etc.

    Some notes though; your page output produces a 'body' tag as the first line, then a doctype declaration, then the html/head declarations... If you're not a HTML expert you might want to get one to look over that :p

    comment out the body line (Perl?) Try placing a hash symbol '#' at the start of the line;

    Hi to all
    As I have said, the time is not right at the moment to start charging members to list items, what I was thinking of doing as an incentive to get members is to credit a members account with £20 for joining http://www.auction1.co.uk
    and credit their account with an extra £5 for every member they refer. I would be interested to read any feedback on this idea?

    Hi Webstuff
    The "Join Up" £20 credit and £5 referral credits are only
    to be used for listing purposes and is not cash
    placed into someone's bank account,
    As I have said now is not the time to start charging
    so as an incentive to get new members and also reward
    members who refer a new member I thought it would
    be good to start crediting members accounts so when I
    do start charging they would be able to have a good discount
    for listing items.

    Hi to all
    Many thanks to all those who commented about http://www.auction1.co.uk
    and for the e-mails I have received about the "Credited Accounts"
    Having taken the advice. The best thing to do is to carry on making the site free to list etc. and when the time is right, give all members a discount from the day I do start charging, which sounds a better idea,so thanks again to those who suggested that way of doing things.
