Hi . I have just completed my second year as accounts manager for this office cleaning company established in 1989 .
I would be more than interested to hear any office based employees comments or opinions relating to office cleaning requirements and experiences in order to better serve our clients .

For example , what qualities would one regard as most important when choosing an office cleaning provider ?

How important is price ? Are quality materials important ? etc ....

Any constructive comments will be greatly appreciated .

HI David

In my experience of 20 years contracting in corporate offices, I've noticed that the cleaners don't actually 'clean' they tell you what they don't do! They can't clean the PCs, keyboards as they're not allowed to touch them. They don't clear up cups etc. in fact they don't do much of anything so I am sure that anything your company offers will be a bonus! I used to get so tired of working at a desk that wasn't dusted or bins not being emptied and cups left lying around the office (although I found the guys the culprits here lol!). Can't speak for the costs as I've never had a cleaner, (got my husband for that ha ha - only joking) no one would put up with my dogs so I have to do it!

Hi David

Anne is right; I do cleaning contracts as part of my total solution for SME. although price is an important factor it is not the most important, The level of service provided is the most important after all, there is nothing worse rushing to the toilet to find the soap has not been toped up, or even worse no toilet paper.

An interesting fact is a universe student did a test on bacteria living on surfaces he found that your toilet bowl on average contented less germs than your office desk, yet people still eat at there desks.

Mainly due to the reason most cleaners do not touch them.

Although companies are reluctant for you to touch there workstations, we specialise in cleaning them now so our clients have piece of mind that we are doing it properly without causing damage.

I used to work at a company where the Finance Director used to write notes in pencil around the edge of his monitor screen, and used to go spare when the cleaner would come in and clean away all his important notes! Most amusing.

Off topic a bit I know, but your comment about cleaners not cleaning PC's reminded me of it.

    Hi David,

Welcome to the forums. In addition to my catering business I also operate a contract cleaning business up in Scotland. I must disagree to an extent with posts saying service standards are more important. I believe that price is THE key issue in my experience. What i've also found though is also a great deal of apathy and unwillingness on companies parts to change cleaners no matter the cost savings. I know that this is not a great topic for people to comment on!

Barry , thanks for the comments to which I totally relate . Whilst I embrace the fact that our customers are reluctant to change providers , it is equally as frustrating that despite great potential for improvement many would be customers are unwilling to try a new provider despite receiving a low quality service . I liken it to a home owner being unwilling to change gas supplier despite guaranteed savings , simply because it is easier not to .

We recently switched over to mopp.com for all our office cleaning and I think some of the team are also using them to clean their own private homes now.

It is the simplest and fastest cleaning service we have used so far. I just book the days I want the cleaners to come over directly from the website and it is only around 10 pounds/hr which is the cheapest one I found so far. The quality of the cleaning has been great (better than most we have tried) and the guys that work at Mopp have been very friendly and helpful. I hope this was helpful.

    Good luck!

    /Tina
