Ok, here's my opinion, but bear in mind I say this as a retailer.
I think you have an interesting, niche product. However, you will never sell enough of them to make a living. Even if your site did extremely well, you just won't get enough sales every day/week/month to make a living.
You need to distribute the product to 100 or so retailers, online and offline. With a ready made audience, they will sell your product for you.
You won't make as much money on the sale, but your overheads per sale will be much lower.
A word of warning though - unless you get an exclusive deal in place,
and the product is patented, any success will be met with many, many copies. Because patenting this product will not be cost effective, the only real chance is getting in, making a good amount of money in the first 6 months, then getting out as soon as all the copies appear. The only way you can do this is by selling to lots of retailers.
