I'd not done bookkeeping until I started with TAS, so its inherent user friendliness, and the ease with which I could correct my early stupid mistakes made it ideal. Don't know what they are like now, but the manuals when I bought it were also excellent both in how to use the software and the basic principles of double entry.
It's generally true in the software world that what is ubiquitous is because of clever marketing rather than merit. People think "it must be good because everyone uses it". Not true.
