Good evening! My name is Adam Boyle and i am in the process of setting up a small online computer retailer. I understand that there is plenty of activity in this market already, but i am willing to try and make a go of it. My web address is: http://www.severn-computers.com - i look forward to spending time in your company as this is my first business venture and i am dedicated to making it a sucessful company,

I hope you are all well :D

Hi Adam and welcome to the forums.

Firstly I must admit that I didnt think that the Severn went anywhere near Ipswich !

I like the initial feel of your site and I presume it will be added to in the near future (Many of the options such as Components (note spelling) doesnt have anything in them )

It would be convenient for buyers to be able to specify a build from menu options (see for example www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ )

Theres no reason why you shouldnt make a decent business with a well marketed website.

I wish you all the best

Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forums and best of luck with your new business. Its always a scary feeling when you start out alone, but when you have like minded people around you (like on here) it makes the whole journey so much lighter.

I like your site by the way, alothough I waited a few seconds for the header image to finish loading before realising that it was already loaded and meant to be blurred ;)

Thanks for your input! Since my server is based in America so i had to do a small time conversion php script, i wasnt sure if it was working or not. Hopefully its fixed now..

It looks as though as long as i dont process sensitive data (payment details go through a 3rd party processor anyway) i should be ok...

Not entirely accurate. As it was explained to me by a lawyer specialising in the DPA the Act referers to "indentifable data", a name, address or email address in the context of a product order is likely to be considered indentifiable data. Definately worth getting your TOS checked over by a lawyer.

Welcome to the forum and good luck :)

Thanks for your input vigo. Id really appreciate it, if anybody has the time, if you could read my current privacy statement (via Help) and give me some feedback? My ICT and Business courses have covered the Data Protection Act, but in considerably little detail compared to the document i was reading earlier on hmso.gov.uk - I have posted in the legal forum where this matter is more relevant. Thanks for all your help so far :)
