Where can I send old laser toner cartridges?

Hi all - I have a few old laser toner cartridges that I'd like to send off to a good cause. Any suggestions on a charity etc that takes them?

We really dont have very many each year as we are moving more and more to a paperless office but I would like to pass them on to a good cause if possible.

We just drop ours off at the local PC World for recycling. Just goes to prove that PC World does have one use

There's also a website for getting rid of stuff free rather than bin it.

I'm obviously ignorant in this regard - what is the value of an empty toner cartridge to a charity?

I assume that they are emptied,refilled and sold as re-manufactured cartridges.

The cartridges I use cost about £30-40 each and I am sure the 'ink' is a small part of the cost?

I suppose it's obvious really but it never occurred to me that that was possible... I guess I should do my own good turn and stop chucking mine in the bin and see if any Charities want them instead.

We buy ours on line and they send us a prepaid recycle bag to post ours back.

The rates of return vary wildly by cartridge, and also from month to month. Our charity earns between 25p and £3 per cartridge normally.

Hey, cheers to whoever sent a huge bag of inkjets last week. We raised just short of £20 on that batch. Don't know who it was, but it was most likely someone who is on here.

Thanks to everyone who has been sending these. Can I just add as a caveat, that we can no longer take LASER toners. The only ones are inkjet, which I know is a smaller market, but these are the ones that are cost effective to recycle apparently.

If anyone knows of a company that will pay the charity for Laser cartridges, please could you let me know?

Instead of getting rid of your old laser toners, why don't you get them remanufactured or refilled at Cartridge World. That's what I do, and the quality is just the same as the manufactures own.

I collect cartridges for a Rotary Club. You can imagine my embarrassment, when after 2 years of collecting, I assembled 3 removal-type cartons full of toners etc, and in return I got...

...nothing.

I thus need to change and find a new taker for toners and ink cartridges. Any suggestions are welcome.

This is turning into a nice "beat the system thread"!

I have a Brother fax MFC-440CN.

The ink cartridges have a very small sort of window on the side facing into the machine. Once a small optical reader spots a possible ink-shortage via that window, it shuts the printer-part of the fax off.

I have found (not by myself, but on the net) that a very small sticker will just close off that window.

With that, the cartridge nearly doubled its lifespan.
