Learning SEO ?

Hi People .

I have a web based project which i am wanting to extend and it may run eventually up to about 40 sites which are all car Related and the words in the URL only differ by one word which is the make of the car , the thing is i would like to learn SEO and update the keywords, content ,link building etc myself on a weekly basis,

So where do i start in the dark art ? I know its not an exact science and many of you SEO gurus on here are always bickering about the best ways to achieve the best results .

So what do ? my preferred choice would be 1 to1 tuition because of my attention span reading books etc is not that great ,i would be willing to travel for the right tuition depending on distance and cost of course .

Any advice would be extremely welcome .

Cant speak for others but 1 to 1 SEO tuition from anyone that knows what they are on about is going to hard to come by and very expensive.
Recommend buying some books about SEO, loads available on amazon

Online courses are very much recommended, since from there you can expand to reading seo blogs and others. If you have some reading problems, then this might not be the field for you as you must understand that learning seo is constant and you always have to read stuffs to get updated.

Hey Nathan, great info, thanks to God still exist kind people as you, Now it really solved my doubts about SEO and PPC… do you know how long approximately would a company take optimizing a web site by SEO? I know it is a long process but what does it depends on?.

I'm in exactly the same position - needing to learn but short of time / attention span. Far better to learn from a guru one to one or in a small group.
If there's tuition going "up north" count me in! I'm in Lincoln so not far. Maybe we meet up regularly to review each others progress and succeed as a group. It can be a lonely old job.

To answer your question about the length of time it takes to optimise a website, this depends on the niche of the website as well as the keywords selected. For instance a competitive keyword such as "Insurance" would take longer to optimise than a less competitive keyword like "Jigsaw Blade." Although there are techniques to speed up the rankings for a competitive keyword, using a process called LongTail SEO, this is targeting specific areas of the competitive industry, "such as Ford Focus Car Insurance". Unfortunately not knowing the keywords or the type of industry of a website I can not give you an estimated time scale for SEO.

SEO depends on various techniques: Keyword densities, content, link building, erasing any validation issues/broken codes within a site. The list is extensive.
