How is the LED lights market in UK?

The market seems to have taken off in the last twelve months. This is a consumer viewpoint. Can't help with actual statistics I would try EU statistics as they seem to be more responsive to trends than UK which will take about 10 years to show through into published stats. There is probably a report by one of the market research firms but you will need deep pockets to go that route.

Again as a consumer, I would say waiting to take off once the right products are available at the right price, given the increase in energy cost is making a lot of consumers look at alternatives.

The current offerings seem poor:

  • Not enough lumen output.

  • Colour temperature wrong for domestic use.

  • Low voltage versions not suitable to use with existing transformers.

But it is slowly changing, I've noticed there are now some 5 watt LED GU10's available with 2700K colour temperature, which are a viable replacement for 35 watt halogens, albeit expensive.

I await developments with interest, as I was an early adopter of compact fluorescents in the late 1980's, indeed still have a few still working!
