Looking for dotnet experts around Peterborough

Hi all, I thought I would pop in to the forum and see what's been going on.
Well my company is taking off at the mo, and I'm well chuffed :)
This isn't a post just to show off, I do have a request - honestly.

We had our third birthday last week, and because we have the home office networking thing sorted and our running costs are lower than full on software houses with offices, sales teams, management etc, then we seem to be taking on more software and web development work from companies that are looking around for value for money.

One nice compliment recently was a large company that paid 1 million for its website, and 20K per update said "nah you cant get that kind of work out of freelancers, or small businesses, you need to go to these large software houses and pay the earth".
After a couple of meetings and presentations we managed to convince them that we worked for those expensive development companies for years and it is us that essentially does the work. Our advantage is they talk to us rather than Chinese whispers through a salesman that knows nothing and promises the earth.
Anyway the long and short of it is we are now getting a nice amount of work through word of mouth and well, it looks like we may have to expand.

We currently have a couple of graphic artists / designers we use around Cambridge and London, and a dotnet freelancer who is based in Cambridge and is fantastic.
But I live and work up in Peterborough, and it would be nice to have another freelancer on the books that is nearby me.
I don't want to go down the agency route, and I don't want to pay another company to flick through CVs and tell me who to employ. I want to meet up with someone and go for a pint and a chat and see for myself if I think they have the right stuff.
Right now I cant promise enough work to guarantee a 40 hour week for the next 6 months, but a couple of jobs (3 month contracts) are about 80% confirmed to kick off in January and to be honest we are going to be snowed under with current work and don't want to hit the point of having too much work and not being prepared for it. We pride ourselves on keeping the customer happy and I don't want to start having to apologise to customers, it's not my style. ;)

So does anyone know a DotNet guru in the north Cambridgeshire area?
If you know of anyone who works at home and might want a new contract then tell them to drop me a mail. We work in all manner of projects from pocket PC, to 3D gaming, to websites.
I am currently mastering PHP which I am not a fan of, but the people we are after should know C# and ASP.NET as that is the bread and butter jobs.

At some point we will get enough time off ourselves so that we can redo our website. We are 3 years old and that still looks like it did at the start heheh.

Anyways speak to you all soon,

Lins.

Well done Lindsay......from a fellow Peterborian!!!! (Not sure if there is such a word!!)

Sarah :)

I'm interested in your story. Thought I'd chip in.

I'm not a designer, more a content and usability expert. Leave it to the real talent to make it look good.

I launched Peterboroughbusiness.co.uk over a year ago and it ticks over very nicely.

Last month I tried another community experiment called HireCreative.co.uk, which has been a bit disappointing, I'm afraid.

I live in Peterborough and run NorthLight Media.

Would like to hear how things ave been since your post.

Hi Martyn,

Thanks for your interest, yeah I should really write up recent happenings in our blog as its always good for SEO, but sitting here on Sunday and catching up with some things, I have got a chance to think about and reflect on the business for the last 5 months. And it makes me smile ;)

At the moment business is absolutely booming. We didn't manage to find a dotnet guru around Peterborough in the end, but we did manage to entice an old Uni buddy away from his programming work in Cambridge to come over to the dark side. He is now working full time for us and getting into the swing of working from home and our whole ethos.
My Business partner is currently on his holidays so I have the reigns (hence catching up on a Sunday), but thinking back I am so glad that I started looking for more people back then because we are still snowed under with 4 coders full time (including me). I would hate to think about the amount of work we would of had to turn down if we didn't have these resources. I have to say that I think the whole cautious spending of the recession is now behind us and Business seems to have a backlog of things they want doing and there is an influx of requests. Hopefully we can carry on keeping all of our customers happy (without going back to the 16 hour days heheh)

One thing we were aiming to do is get the people working for us ticking over and then either me or my CoDirector taking one of our bright ideas for the next big thing and running with it for a couple of months. We have a few ideas (usually in the pub) and we list them, it would be nice to see how one could come about and become a flagship for our own software development image. That still hasn't happened yet as with all the extra work coming in (which I am most definitely not complaining about) everyone is still all hands on deck to get invoice able work out the door.
It will happen soon tho, one good thing is we are finally getting a new website. That has been a while coming and a few customers have said the old one really didn't instill confidence in our abilities so hopefully this one will.

Well I had better get on, reminders are beeping.
It was good to reflect and write it down, cheers again for asking the question Martyn.

Speak to you soon,

Lindsay.

Hi Lindsay,
It so nice to hear that a technology company is doing well! I am based just outside of Peterbo and a freelance graphic and web designer. I know you were looking for a dotnet guru recently, but if you are soooo swamped with other design related work, feel free to drop me a PM.
Regards.
