    Hiya

    my girlfriend is about to embark in a new business venture - making handmade greetings cards.

    they really do look loveley.

    im doing some research for her and im wondering:

    how many people would buy a hand made greetings card
    how much would you pay for it?

    i know it depends on quality, so lets assume the quality is the same as in shops

    Hand made greeting cards can be bought from the card factory and I believe they start at just £1.
    There are loads of people out there making handmade cards. Try and google it and see what other individuals are charging. I have two ladies in my wedding directory that make hand made cards.
    If she is making wedding invitations then I would advise her to contact local hotels about wedding exhibitions but they can be quite expensive for a new business....tell her to let the hotel know she is only starting up in business and could they give her a discount to exhibit.

    it's a very competitive area, as Dizzydiza says there are a lot of people out there doing this, and many treat it as a hobby that pays for itself, ie selling their cards relatively cheaply with the aim of just buying more craft stuff to make more cards!

    Because of this, I believe it's v difficult to make a decent profit (especially taking into account the time a card can take to make).

    I make my own cards for friends b'days, etc, but if buying one I'd pay around the £2.50 mark.

    I had a friend who had a business - quite a good business - doing hand made cards. She was always at the SECC gift shows. Last time I spohe to her, she'd chucked it because of the hassle low orders and small profits and gone into teaching.

    depends on how you sell them. we make cards and i know that some of the shops around our area expect us to sell it to them dirt cheap and then they sell for about £3-4 each but then others are willing to do a deal. we just make cards for our own charity and they do well as they are different from the handmade one's bought in the shops which are usually all very similar. the more unique the better
