Small businesses are the heart of the UK's economy, but how well are they served by the business software they use? The Software Satisfaction Awards 2008, organised by UK Business Forums' parent group Sift Media are designed to find out.
Small businesses made up more than half of last year's 1,900+ survey respondents and we are looking for an even bigger turnout this year.
Anyone who uses a business application is entitled to take part in the online survey, which asks about programs for accounting and finance, HR, training and customer relationship management. This means that the companies that emerge as winners have been backed up by scores of users in each category.
Last year saw QuickBooks win the small business accounting award, while its rival Moneysoft carried off the payroll prize. This year, however, they face new competition in the shape of Microsoft Office Accounting as well as the established small business software powerhouse that is Sage. Sage is represented in the most categories - with entrants in HR as well as payroll, accounts and CRM - and will be looking to increase its haul this year after landing the 2007 small business CRM software prize.
But these big international names will be competing with a new generation of business systems offered as online services.
Last year's web-based accounting winner KashFlow, is competing for the honours with new competitors that include Aqilla, Xero, e-conomic and Liquid Accounts. The acceptance of web-based systems for finance, HR and CRM is a key movement in today's software marketplace, and the Software Satisfaction survey data will help identify how quickly companies are moving in this direction. Last year just under 8% of respondents used on-demand systems - will this year's respondents take it over 10%?
* While taking part in the Software Satisfaction Survey, please take a few extra moments to tell us about all the systems you come into contact.
The more people who participate across all these categories will ensure that the final awards are based on a truly representative vote.
* The results are published online and in a Software Satisfaction Annual that provides valuable information for prospective software buyers (8.5MB PDF download).
* Have your say in the 2008 Software Satisfaction Awards - complete the online survey!
