Professional Trustees - registered professional body

Hi,

I have no idea whether there is a governing body for professional Trustees - does any one out there know & if so, who ?

Since many seem to also be Chartered Accountants, would it possibly be the Institute of Chartered Accountants ?

Any ideas ?

Many are either accountants or solicitors so the Institute as you have mentioned above as a starting point but check the accountants route to qualification as there are other bodies. All solicitors holding a current practicing certificate will be under the control of the Law Society. There is also legislation in place The Trustees Act 2000 which also provides the legal framework. Their powers are pretty wide though and the test legally is that of a reasonable standard not an excellent one :)

I actually have a complaint to make & want to know if Trustees have a governing professional body to whom I may write

Any ideas ?

As far as I am aware there is no governing body/association/insitute for trustees in general so there may be nobody to whom you can complain.

However, what is this person a trustee of and are you aware if they have any professional qualifications or letters after their name, or perhaps where they may work if their trusteeship is only a part time thing they do?

there is no qualification to make you a trustee, just a load of trouble. You can now be personally liable for your actions. But dont get paid for many of them. There are moves afoot to make it a profession but that would up the costs and ruin the whole point of the trust in many cases.

I am a trustee for several trusts and pensions etc.and have delt with several disputes drop me a line on info at amvc dot co dot uk and i will try to point you to the right direction.
