Is it time to re-submit to DMOZ?

    Hi,
    Can someone advise me as to whether I should re-submit to DMOZ, I submitted my website about 16 months ago and it's not been listed as yet so wondered if I should give it another go, even though I risk going to the bottom of the pile again.

    The reason I'm asking is that I had 21 back links from Google up until about 3 weeks ago and now seem to have lost most of them, this coinsided with my main keyphrase slipping from page 2 to page 6.

    Also can anyone advise on how to do a sig on UKBF, it says the url is not allowed.

    I think you have to post a bunch of times before you can post URLs, standard on most websites to stop spamming.

    Anyway, DMOZ is a tricky old bird, it's so far behind with it's editing it's ridiculous!

    I read it's pointless submitting anymore, as you might be retired before you get a link there.

    Don't worry too much about Google repositioning you, as long as you continue to add links and use good SEO techniques, you'll get back up.
    Google always has a shuffle when the algorithm gets altered. As long as your site is relevant to the keywords then it will settle back down again. Give it a month after you notice a repositioning and if it hasn't clawed its way back up by then, start working harder on your SEO techniques!:)

    Resubmit to DMOZ. Do so every four or five months until you get listed. It really is very worthwhile. Don't submit more often than that. They are, if anything, over-sensitive to submission spamming.

    Start by burrowing down to where your business is registered and register as though it's a local only business, no matter how widely you offer goods or services. Your site will work its way up from there.

    If you can possibly offer "value added" services, like technical advice, tutorials or whatever other useful to surfers facility on your site, that will help too.

    One thing is for certain: without any value added, no commercial site will start anywhere but at the bottom. If you're selling, just don't even try to con your way in any higher.

    Hi, many thanks for the replies.
    I have posted a number of times here, not sure how many but I thought I was a full member, do you mean I have to pay a subscription? I can't find anything on the homepage that relates to this.

    Regarding DMOZ there seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether I should resubmit but I'm guessing it can't do any harm.

    I did get downgraded for other keywords but then came back higher than before with them. What I can't understand is how I've lost all those other inbound links.

    The only thing I do for SEO is to write good descriptions and titles and fill in my meta tags with titles and keywords that are in the descriptions.

    By link building I guess you mean inbound as opposed to reciprocal, which basically means directories, I have a link submittal page on the site.

    Hi again,
    I've just re-submitted to DMOZ I drilled down to the regional UK section of my category, apparently they have more editors and less to edit there. I've also read that they had a system crash not long after I submitted my site back in Oct 06 so that could have something to do with it.
    So now I sit and wait.

    Also is Yahoo paid directory worth submitting to? I've already submitted to the free version.

    Keep an eye on the DMOZ submission and try again in four or five months if it's not showing by then. To be honest, you really should drill all the way down to your county or even town, where possible. It really does work. And it really is worthwhile, even if it doesn't seem so in the shorter term. You've just seen how quick and easy it is.

    You haven't submitted to the Yahoo Directory, you've submitted to the Yahoo search engine, unless you are a non-commercial organisation. Otherwise it wouldn't have been free.

    Just a couple of years ago, it was considered essential to fork out the $300 per year. Now there is a debate going on about whether it is worth it and it is certainly falling in importance. As I expect that trend to continue, I'm in the don't bother camp. But there are plenty who would demur.
