Who will you vote for in the local elections?

Even though I'm a citizen, the government took away my right to vote (because I've lived outside the country for more than 15 years). So, if I was allowed to vote, it would be for a government that respects the rights of all its citizens! (Sorry to distract a little from the thread.)

I have not got a clue. I probabley won't vote unless somebody gives me a good reason too. None of them do what they say they are going to do, so why bother!

All of the parties will do the same in the end it is just the way they deliver the message 'Taxes will go up because etc'
I think we would be a much better country if privatisation come into play. A little like NZ in the essence that if you need a hospital you pay for it etc.

I didn't register in time so won't be eligible to vote. Would probably go for Ken if I had the option. He's a good example of someone who comes across as a repugnant personally but effective professionally.

Mine is anti government vote. Labour are stuffed and Gubble Gullets Brown will be terminated either by his party or by the electorate at the general election. BTW I am not anti Labour but they have been in power for too long and have lost the plot. As for the alternatives WTF is is there, at this point we might as well vote for the BNP! They are a lazy sorry bunch of self seeking ******* who need to pull their fingers out and get passionate about what they do.
As for forum members wingeing "I not going to vote it's a waste of time". Get a grip that why lazy ******* politicians get away with doing very little because they know you will not stand up to them. Get proactive and make a noise you lazy ********, make a difference.

Do you really think so? Collectively, the British public are far too dim to realise the harm they've done to us.
A government should fear its people - not the other way round. The French govt is terrified of its people but oh no - not here.

I do agree that all governments are capable of being useless and underhanded and choosing who to vote for is difficult. However what worries me more is that it would appear based on the poll results and general feedback to this thread that the majority of the people here won't bother to have a say in the matter.
Not voting at all is just as bad in my opinion as voting for the wrong government.

Yes they are however, the media hates NuLab so that will be the death sentence for them.
Wasn't France declared bankrupt earlier this year? I suspect it is why they have been/are so proactive in the EU, whithought farming subsidy they would be driftwood.

I dont trust any of the Parties to run the UK and to do what they promise in the run up to Elections but would not waste my Vote.
I get embarassed every time I see Darth Vader Brown on TV and he is not a statesman.
As the World is in public view now, I can see Dave Cameron being the only one who can carry himself off on the World Stage giving the UK any credibilty.

Brown has been so much of a dissapointment, when he was supposed to be the Iron Fist. He does so many Uturns he doesn't get anywhere.

Hmmm, I have to say I disagree. Isn't privatization what Maggie installed during her time? The London docklands is a good example, where market forces were allowed to shape the way the area developed. Potential benefits were to be realised through the 'trickle down effetc' and so on. It didnt go according to plan- in fact, some say it was a failure.
After all, how can profit seeking institutions care for you?

Personally, I will be voting Conservative this time. It doesn't mean they will always have my backing (as they have not done in the past).
Gordon Brown is totally unsuitable as a leader and representative of this country. If foreigners didn't know better they'd assume we were all scruffy, undignified and devoid of any charisma.
I would love a government to actually be able to instil pride back into this fabulous country - ultimately however, this responsibility falls on us and not the politicians.

IMHO, not exercising your right to vote automatically strips you of your right to complain; not voting is a vote in itself, but almost certainly not for what you want. If you want to make a point, spoil your paper - it still gets counted.
I haven't decided who to vote for yet, for exactly the same reasons as those who say they're not going to bother. I'm fortunate, in that the polling station is right behind my house, so I'll be investing the time so that I have a right to complain later.

Conservative. Although I don't much like the Tory party as a whole, it contains more people committed to the kinds of ideas that I'm committed to than any other party - i.e. low taxes, deregulation, small government, letting people get on with their lives.
I'm very much an Alan Duncan and Matthew Parris kind of Tory rather than a member of the hang 'em and flog 'em fraternity. I dislike Notting Hill Toryism, too, especially as represented by David Cameron.

Ironically I'm voting with the labour candidate but only because he happens to be a local businessman who I know personally and who I know will do his utmost so actually make things work locally.
The fact that he's labour counts against him because in a national election he'd stand no chance (I wish he'd go independent!) but considering all that he's involved in (community associations, school governor, etc...) I know he's already proven his worth.
Shame you can't say that for many of the rest.

The problem with governments is that they attract people who are not professionals at management and in general come from the loudest not the brightest.
would you leave the running of a large company to amateurs .?
Sad fact is that the only people who are attracted to a life in politics are totally unsuited for the job and those that could do nations any good are far to sane to take the job on.
Its also a fact that 98% of the public don't have a clue or care whats going on hence the election of idiots like Seb Coe who was a great runner but running exercises the body not the brain.
so although you may have a favourite you are actually stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.
