Payments over the telephone advice needed?

    Hi all

    I use Worldpay, Paypal And google Checkout via my online store: www.retailsecurityworld.co.uk


    I am wanting to accept payments over the phone, i have looked at worldpay and they want £100-£120 and you wait a month for cash ?

    Also paypal want 4.4% plus £20 a month ?

    Is there a way i can accept payments over the phone where i get the money faster and dont get charged as much as the above ?

    If you have WorldPay I assume you have a merchant account, if thats the case speak to your bank about getting a proper credit card terminal. They usually charge a monthly fee, but most banks will have a certain margin for negotiation on what it is. This would allow you take telephone payments and should cost less than an online virtual terminal.

    With the new security settings being brought in by the card companies, they will make all companies pass a security audit which is near impossible for most e-commerce software to handle, therefore forcing people onto PSP's

    Therefore SSL is dead and will not pass the audit, so it looks like you will be unable to directly accept card details by your web site, but just by the phone where you can use the PSP vertual terminal

    May I recommend you investigate payment options via the Federation of Small Businesses as you'll get a much lower percentage rate and discounted monthly payments. When contacting people like Protx, get their rates, then ask what about via the FSB? They won't offer, you'll need to ask!

    I've got discounted deal with Streamline via FSB - are you meaning I can get an FSB discount with Protx as well ?

    Streamline and worldpay are the same company.
    You get a generous discount for streamline if you join FSB Aand you can use both together.Also i would be very surprised if worldpay didn't meet the new regulations that are coming in too.
    Streamline pay into my account almost straightway, not 100% certain but it seems to be no mor ethan 3 days I am waiting for the fund to transfer into my account.
    I use the streamline terminal for telephone orders too

    $% plus is rather expensive depending on the size of the average purchase

    Only Orders taken using SSL (i.e. where your site collects card details) will be hit with the security audit, basically forceing all onto PSP's

    Streamline is owned by the Co-Op bank part of the co-op group I dont think worldpay is conected, bt may be wrong

    I can confirm that the FSB offers with streamline offers free merchant accounts and free accounts and Protx are one of the cheapest PSP's with fixed charges

    I too would recommend TransX. I use it as opposed to PayPal. I also like the fact that you can receive your payments the same day if you are willing to pay a fee of £20.00.

    It has been a couple of months since I have looked into the PCI DSS but I would imagine most merchants on here would fall under level 4 which means you process under 20,000 VISA transactions per year.

    Provided you do not store the details and pass them straight to Protx, for example, you'll be OK.

    The PCI DSS recommends you complete an annual self assessment questionnaire and annual network scan. Any good UK hosting company should fulfil the compliance requirements.

    You will however need a 128-bit SSL certificate for your payment pages.

    It is not a law, it is an obligation enforced by the payment providers.

    If you are using Protx's VSP Direct you could then use Protx's virtual terminal free of charge provided you have a MOTO merchant number.
