If you've not already noticed, WordPress 2.5 has been released and can be downloaded from http://wordpress.org

It brings some new features, in particular the gallery feature and a different, more usable, yet still familiar back-end.

The WYSIWYG editor is improved and designed to no longer mangle your carefully hand-crafted html, though this is still to be tested fully by us! Media management is also dramatically improved.

In all it represents a big step forward for WordPress users. It's also less likely to break plugins and themes than WordPress 2.3 did, though it does still represent some changes, so it's worth testing these things out on a local installation if possible.

In all, recommended.

Am I likely to bring any problems my way if I go ahead and install this?

When I originally installed 2.3.3 I had all sorts of trouble, until I realised my theme was not going to work with it. A new theme, a few tweaks and help from friends/colleagues & all going ok. I wouldn't want to mess too much with it though :)

Maybe a full backup before install, then a play with it late one of these night....

2.3.3 Had a significant number of changes to the database structure and broke a lot of things. It was also, in many ways, the foundation for 2.5 and so if you're fine in 2.3 a lot of things will continue.

Some things to note, however:

A lot of plugins try to get cute in the back-end. There's a good chance they'll break.

We're having to tweak our themes for 2.5 and it's not going to be this week when they're 100% ready for 2.5
