cheque payments received

Hi,

I was paid a cheque in April 2007 and paid it into my Natwest a/c. I would now like to see a copy of it, but the women at the cash till tells me they can't go back that far.I am not sure she is right or just can't be bothered. It's very important that I get a copy of it, does anyone know my legal rights?

I'm sure if the police needed to see it for say a murder case, they would find it.Or has the record been permanently deleted?

I was once told a few years ago (by NatWest actually), that while the cheques were destroyed, they kept microfilm copies of them, which could be accessed via a microfilm fiche reader. There would be a charge for doing this. I don't know if this still happens, but April 2007 is not that long ago. I would have thought they would still be able to access either the cheque or a copy of it. Sounds as though you are being fobbed off by someone who just 'cannot be bothered'.
