Chargeback

Hello guys,

I use PayPal (now changing to streamline) to process my order. I have just had a expensive chargeback. I cant see why but i did loose. The customer used a the billing address which is where i sent the item so the card user must have been at that address for paypal pro to accept the payement.

What i would like to know, is their a way to fight this as it is a lot of money ive lost even though i though i took all precautions. And i have learn my lessons here!

Ps. Anyone one know if you can use protx/ streamline on more than 1 website with 1 account.

thanks guys

Hi,

I seem to remember that you have to prove delivery of the item to fight a paypal chargeback... this might have changed recently but if you have no proof of delivery your chances are slim.

You can use the same Protx on multiple web sites if those web sites are selling similar themed items. It comes down to Streamlines rules, they will try to make you apply for a separate merchant ID but its worth arguing the point.

With Worldpay you can have up to 6 separate installation IDs with the one merchant ID.

This is the problem with Paypal, you have very little recourse in the event of a dispute. It's another reason we stopped using them, together with another problem we had which they simply refused to even so we dropped them.

You say charge back, was it really a charge back or was it a paypal disputed transaction?

sorry silly jokes i posted that before your thread appeared. It was a credit card chareback. i have another going through paypal where the customer didnt get delivery for 2 weeks over christmas then the item appeared. Ive been talking to the customer who confirmed to me that they have got it, i asked them too revoke the charge back but they wont and have explained to paypal the situation and have POD but now hold no hope of getting that one back either. Luckily out of a hello of a lot of order ive only had these 2 chargebacks.

I noticed speaking to streamline the phone hardly rings before irs answered, with paypal you have a que (if you find their phone number) then a wait.

Im in the process of changing.

What was the reason for the chargeback? Anyway, if you have proof of delivery you can take the customer to court. Are you UK based? If you are and the value is within the realm of a small claim then you can get all your evidence together and take them to the small claims court to get your money.

I got scammed for about 5k by a South African gang and called the police in. The police is slightly worse than useless though and really don't have a clue.

I hope you get it all sorted and it is good to hear your chargeback rate is very low.

Yep, I'd be pursuing the customer myself I think.

Get advice from some of the more 'legally' minded on here (Antonia at Limeone is one who springs to mind), and also speak to someone like Cred-X (also a member) who can advise you if there is anyway his services can help.

Paypal assume that you will just go away, but what's right is right - so you have to pursue this at least a little.

keep chasing it but paypal are hopeless at sorting things

we have the other problem that we get false orders from scammers using other ppls cards, the contact details are wrong and we cant get hold of the account holders no matter how hard we try & cant refund the account holders

we also recently go a dispute from a customer but paypal gave us a reference that we cant link to a customer.
we have no idea who it was to resolve the problem & they wont give us more info

we have had a lot of problems with paypal and currently changing to streamline/protx

alot of customers have had to send cheques as the paypal site seems to throw problems our way every day
we tried to upgrade to their PRO account and could never find if it was compatable with our site

PayPal Pro has been alright for us, we integrated it without too many issues we have added maxmind fraud prevention into our systems over the past couple of weeks and we are getting zero fake orders where as at the start of jan we were getting 2-4 every couple of days :)

That's good, but is the cost of MaxMind on every order less than the cost of dodgy orders?

Thanks, i have proof of delivery and everything is as should be.
In that case send a letter to the customer requesting payment and give them 28 days to pay. In the letter also state that if payment is not received you shall be lodging a claim through the small claims court,

We do this for situations similar to yours. In the past year we have had 7 and in all 7 cases the above approach has worked.
