I read one article which described the Pentland Firth between the Scottish mainland and the Orkney Isles as "The Saudi Arabia of tidal power", such is the huge displacement of tide which runs through there every day between the North Atlantic and the North Sea.

All in all, Scotland seems particularly well set-up to exploit wave and tidal power. Might be that the oil fever of the 70s was a false dawn and this is the real thing???????????????

Anything that brings down the cost of renewables would be massive, like the new technology that Google has part funded which they hope will bring the cost of solar PV down to that of coal fired power stations.

Personally, apart from that, I think we'll see the greening of the mainstream rather than green shooting stars for the next decade (which is a good thing).

Printing is a big industry that is waking up to environmental issues. Alas it is a low margin business mind !!

On a domestic level the technology is too expensive and the returns take too long... not sure if it is cost effective on a large scale commercial level.

we are always looking for opportunities of this type but nothing seems to be jumping out at us at the moment

some friends are going into eco holidays homes abroad that seem quite cheap but need alot of work - but they reckon there is alot of demand for eco holidays with organic foods away from the crowds

they also reckon mixing it with mediation, art & healing courses is starting to jump too

Government targets usually give a good idea of what may be big in the future. At the moment they have set increasingly stricter targets to increase recycling/ composting and increase the energy efficiency of new homes. Anything that helps do any of these is set to grow fast in the future. Also I wouldn't call it a highgrowth area but anyone who figures a way to use the really cheap eletricity of the national grid overnight and store it to sell back at peak times is on to a winner! Answers on a web blog!

One of the biggest target marketplaces has got to be the reduction of CO2 and other damaging emissions surely.

I've been working on bringing fuel technolgies to the UK for 2 years, very close but not quite there

I would suggest looking at Glowasol material and the Company Globally Greener Solutions Limited in Swansea and what they can do with combined waste material

ok i`ll give a little insight into what i`m trying to do, at the moment i am at the stage of a funding search to help me expand into international markets,the whole idea involves aquiring end of life vehicles from various sources ie insurance firms (write offs), local authorities and the general public to be stripped for parts and recyclable materials, according to latest figures most ATF`s (authorised scrap yards) are only managing to recycle 75% of the vehicles they recieve the rest generally ends up in land fill but by hours and hours of research i have managed to pinpoint markets and a customer base that will allow me to recycle 100%of the stock i recieve by the export of spare parts and vehicles to other countries such as Egypt and other gulf states, together with european countries and asia i have had contact with companies wishing to buy everything and more that i can get (even refrigeration and air conditioning, tyres (both scrap and usable)and all plastic products, pvc etc. my problem starts with the fact that i am a one man band at the moment and by shear hard graft and determination have managed to start a business maintaining vehicles using recycled parts and material to local trades and customers (ask me about my experiances with business angels it will make your hair curl :redface. i have now aquired a plot of land and i am in the process of applying for all the relevent licences but to make this viable i need to expand , expansion=serious money which i just dont have so if anybody can give me a few pointers or thoughts on my idea i would be very grateful

to add a little further information i am also planning on running my vehicles and electricity generators on a hybrid system of bio-fuel and wind generation to further reduce my carbon footprint which hopefully in time i will be able to market as a seperate idea

Then how come, since I live close to you, I've never heard of it? And what's a kilometer?

This product has been running now about a year here in the USA, and has really just started to take off the first of the year. It is growing fast. I believe in the uk it is kilometers verses Miles like it is here in the US. It is ground floor, but is such a great environment product. Believe me this time next year you will definetly here about it. Would love to talk to you. I live in Athens Ga
