NP - generally I would say that it isnt really worth it (not professional advice) as many holidays in the UK arent booked through methods required to cover cancellation/ curtailment and most people who are the sort that consider insurance for travel will have taken out personal possessions cover on their home insurance anyway.

I have on several occasions bought travel insurance from the Post Office to go abroad. Price was good but cant remember off hand what we paid. I am glad I did as I also had the occasion to claim on it.

Wonder when we are going to get some real post.. all they delivering to me is junk mail :(

Someone has just posted about future strikes being outlawed. So hopefully things will get back to normal very soon.
As for insurance I have bought insurance for abroad before but last time I used Argos of all places, they were cheaper:)

The Post Office travel insurance, seems to be quite highly priced in comparison with some of the other insurers (especially-online based insurers).

But the service if you do need to claim, appears to be good.

This is an interesting read; travel-insurance-insider.blogspot.com/2008/07/post-office.html

Travel Insurance is pretty useful - as with all insurance, it's a waste of money until you need it!!!
This is a Guardian page on various aspects of Travel Insurance that's been in the news recently
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/travelinsurance Here's a BBC Q&A on travel insurance http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/2152919.stm
This one has general useful information on choosing the right policy, making a claim and travel insurance cover

Hope this helps!!

I nearly got insurance from the PO last year but found Insure and Go much cheaper.

Is the PO paying someone to hang around forums and post about new products and services? How forward thinking of them, in a spammer type way:)

I purchased PO travel insurance, only problem, my on-line account still had the policy details saved from the last time I ordered, I didn't notice and clicked OK, so when I noticed the policy had the wrong policy holder details I called the PO customer service desk to cancel it.

Would they cancel it? nope! Although I paid for the policy with my credit card and the account it was bought under is my name they want to speak to the person I accidently put on the policy! Wouldn't be so bad only that she now lives in Australia. I explained this but the PO want her to call and informed me that they are open 8ap-8pm.. when I explained that it is 7am in Sydney when 8pm here the PO didn’t think it was too much to ask!

Long & short, PO refuse to cancel the policy I bought with my money - will NEVER use them again! If customer service is SO bad over a simple matter like this, the lack of understanding they have shown, I shudder to think what would happen if I ever needed to make a travel claim..

That's hardly the fault of the Post Office now is it

And surely your friend could have found a convenient time to call within the 14 days you have the right to cancel.
