Paypal no option other than signing up?

Does anyone who uses PayPal as a payment option still have the option
for customers not to sign up?
I just use the buttons system, when I initially set them up customers had the
option of just using their own credit cards and not having to sign up with Paypal.
I've just tested the button, and the only way of paying now is by signing up
to PayPal. Is this the same for everyone, and if so, how long has it been
like this?

I have heard people say that your preferences within paypal profile can be 'over ruled' mysteriously.
Have you actually checked iin paypal to see how it is set up?
you should have the option to have the customer sign up or not. under payment preferences it should have paypal account optional on or off buttons.

Strange, because I don't remember ever changing the setting and yet
I could always take payments before without people having to sign up.
I'll keep an eye on it and see if it changes again.

Their Pro method is quite good and can be used in a number of different ways including a system where user doesnt leave(and go to paypal site) your website whilst buying from your website.

This has happened to m too, I lost a few sales through it, but then I added worldpay hehehe! My sales have increased threefold, two thirds being via worldpay. Had paypal not kept 'resetting' my preferences I would not have felt the need to do this so soon.

My sales are definitely increasing after dumping pp checkout - I still offer paypal as an option and have had one customer request an invoice to pay that way. I don't want to alienate customers with funds in their paypal account as I get plenty of previous ebay customers ( I send them a discount code for the website when they buy from our ebay shop).
1/4 of customers reported problems when using paypal checkout, none have had any trouble with secpay, and I love how the email from them gives you the avs check etc.

Agree with last comment, we have used paypal for last 2 years and have recently amended to allow people to pay without going to Paypal and sales have increased. I think some people are putoff by paypal.

I have not had any problems and my site using Paypal as the merchent.

Also have the Virtual payment option, that allows you to take payments over the phone. Good value for money.

Why pay £20 per month for an inferior service like paypal when you can have secpay for £10 ??
Paypal has it's uses but I don't trust them enough to handle all my business transactions.

Can you please direct me to the secpay so as I can find out more about it, is it similar to paypal? I have never heard of it? and like a few of you here my first choice would not be paypal.
