Holiday entitlement in notice period

Hi,
Earlier this month I handed my notice in at work. My official leaving date is set for the 5th of September. However, my employer is now trying to force me to take the holiday entitlement I am owed (10 days) as time off, meaning my last day at work would be the 21st of August. I would rather receive payment for these days and carry on working up until the 5th of September.

Would anyone be able to shed some light on the matter for me please? I have heard conflicting views on it so far.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

I'm pretty sure it is down to the employer as most contracts state that when you can take holidays is up to them. I know when I handed my notice in they tried to do the same but I managed to talk them out of it :)

I'm sure someone more qualified will be along soon clarify.

Sandra (as usual!) is correct. The only consideration is that an employer must give notice of their requirement for you to take holiday twice the length of time before the holiday as the length of holiday (e.g. two weeks notice if they require you to take a week off). However, this requirement to give you notice only applies to those holiday days that form part of your statutory holiday entitlement under the Working Time Regs (currently 20 days inclusive of bank holidays) and not to any additional contractual holiday entitlement.
