Unfortunately, Office never was commissioned as a single entity, which remains one of it's problems, though a lot less visible these days.

Word, Excel etc were separately developed and only much later in their lives were they marketed together as Office, and it's taken several versions to get everything working together as it should (anyone remember Wordmail?). IMHO Excel has always been way ahead of the others, if you ignore the fact that it was almost impossible to print anything properly up to about V5, and significantly was the first Windows program to have right-click functionality.

Re: Office 2007

I've had Vista with Office 07 sitting in the office ready to be installed on the staff workstations but have been too scared to do it, but reading this I might just have to get it done. Perhaps by experimenting with my laptop first!

We got a nice shiny lappy with Vista and office 2007, sat in the corner collecting dust.

Just can't be a**ed with getting it to work anything like properly. tried and tried and tried.

Excellent pieces of software Ozzy, install them and see for yourself. Office 2007 is a must.

Before you install Vista check that it is compatible with every piece of software and printer you use - even now, some are not yet compatible, including some antivirus and firewalls.

As far as Office 2007 goes - you won't regret installing it.

Re: Office 2007

Also be aware that both Vista and Office 2007 are memory hogs. You'll need an absolute minimum of 1gb RAM to run them both at all efficiently. I think that 1gb of RAM is recommended for anything apart from the most basic Vista, and the pretty part of Word in Office will gobble RAM too. (So if you are going to run a graphics program too, e.g. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, you'll need even more.)
