A very quick explanation. SEO involves both on-page and off-page optimisation to rank well in the search engines.

Firstly I would say do some keyword research and see what terms you want to rank well for. Quick look at your site and I think there is potential to target easily over +50 keyword/pharses.

Then I suggest doing some competitor analysis on the sites that currently rank for those keywords see how good their onpage optimisation is and the amount of backlinks coming into their site. This should show the strenght of the competition and maybe show if it is possible to get page 1.

I would then carry out onpage optimisation which briefly involves titles, meta descriptions (some say these dont matter in SEO however the search engines may show these as the text in the results of a search query, so a well written and relevant meta description will improve click through rates), h1, h2, h3...., keyword density, internal links and anchor text, alt images etc....

Off page optimisation is all about links to your site. Have a look at www.domain-pop.com to see your current backlinks and also your competition. One way backlinks from relevant (other baby related sites) are the way forward for you. I would have a look at competitors links, then request links from other baby sites, related directories, do some article writing and post in good article sites (ezines, article alley, article dashboard, go articles etc...) with appropiate backlinks (change anchor text).

I would suggest you download it, give it a try and if you find it of value consider purchasing it then… the best thing software does is compare your website to that of your competitors under a chosen keyword… it then tells you what you need to do to fix your website.

I totally agree, i have been doing my own seo for over 6 months now and the results have been really good we are page one of google, yahoo and msn for our most competitive search terms.

Try to get high PR links that are in your niche, i can give you list of thousands of free directories if you wish but a tiny amount of relevant high pr links in your niche will catapult you into higher pages - also post aticles that point to your site, maybe on the growing baby figures, or baby clothing manufacture news (try to avoid promoting a particular product though as PR news site don't like blatent spamming to promote a site)

Seems doing your own SEO has worked for you. I note your domain is just over 1 yr old. Did you notice a sudden increase in traffic or rankings from Google (suddenly coming out the sandbox) or was it an increase in rankings over time?

Also if you could give some more info on your link building that would be helpful. I personally have found it quite difficult to get links on related sites but have a few. In past I have submitted to directories, chased high authority links (ac.uk and .gov links) and currently doing a bit of article writing to get some deep links.

sandbox is not a nice place to be but there are things you can do to help, i would say for an early site just keep on linking, try to submit to as many quality directiries as possible - look what your competition is doing and start yourself a blog.

the main thing though links,links,links and when you are done do some links.

sandbox exit tends to be quite a sudden thing - pick your main search terms - use these words (and not the title of your site) when linking and monitor your position EVERY DAY some days you will be up and then you think 'great i'm doing something right' and then all of a sudden you are 150 positions down, don't worry about that its just the google data centre but what matters is that over time you climb. Use your time in the sandbox to link and market though.
