1 you will need a website :)

2 you will need a designer who is a great SEO

3 Products /services or a great original idea :|

4 you need to make your product / services 10 pence cheaper than your competitors ,not all of them but those that show on the first 2 pages of google.

This does not apply to that great idea ,comes under get rich quick :rolleyes:

5 you will need to be in the top 10 on google for your products / services

6 you need great people skills

7 delivery yesterday :D

1/Research - find a hungry crowd, in which there are people looking something but not much supply - then ask them what they want, and supply what they are asking for.

2/Sell what people want, not what they need: people need insurance. People want to knock 10 shots of their golf game.

3/Avoid at all costs situations where price is the USP, so the 10p is a bad idea! Avoid all commodity me too products like the plague. Information products are the best

4/Work out how to reach your hungry crowd, and SEO is not necessarily a good way or the best way of doing that. There are many other strategies

5/Learn copywriting

additions to fool proof plan:

8 have 0800 number where ever possible everyone loves free

9 price is imperative 75% of visitors are looking for best prices

10 copious use of the word "cheap" in your tags and copy

11 if you work hard for 10 years you are not following the plan

of all the millions of inventors e.t.c who have original ideas only very few crack it.

selling known products and maybe not so well known products works for the majority.

There's only ever been one Albert Einstein and we had to let him go cause he can't flog nofink :)

Dont have to be a genius to come up with an idea like the million dollar home page but yes it is difficult to.... guess I am opting for the 10 year plan making other peoples quirky idea websites ;)

This is a difficult one and I would never say to anyone that it is easy to get rich on the internet.

I agree the most with Kimmrunner's 1st point about finding a niche, and preferably a niche that people are looking for. Some SEO, and even just search engine friendliness, will help in this case. SEO will not help much if your product is so new and different that nobody is looking for it yet, that's where PR and marketing come into play, as it did with the million dollar homepage.

Most people start their online venture in the hope that they will succeed. I would say be realistic so you are prepared for when it is not the rip-roaring overnight success you thought it would be in the first few weeks/months (it seldom is), keep your cashflow healthy (don't overspend and end up bankrupt!) so you are in a strong position to continue to invest the longterm time and effort that is usually needed for your venture. Be flexible and ready to adapt as time goes on.

Be weary of the soothsayers who tell you there is gold in them thar hills, especially the ones who are just selling you pick axes and not actually digging for gold themselves. Be weary of business publishers saying that this new industry X is forecast to be a multi-million pound industry, they are usually doing this to either sell you reports or to sell you an exhibitor stand/place at the next industry X exhibition/conference, or to sell you advertising.

Finally, don't be too guided by 10 or n point lists, since these are usually too general or too biased to a certain type of venture to apply well to your particular venture.

Well now if you put the word "cheap" in google you get 213 million results.
If you put "sex" in google you get 422 million results.
Conclusion the most sought after thing on the internet is "cheap sex" ;)

Now if you put "cheap dolls houses" in google guess who comes up No 1,2,6,7 ans the same applies for all the other products we sell.

Cheap is a relative term,but it sure do make the tills ring :)

The average british shopper loves cheap hence the success of Tesco and all the crap they purvey :)

"top of the range luxury for the same price as cheap dolls houses offered elsewhere"

Offline the key to getting rich is location, location, location.
Online its information information information.

People don't use their search engines to find you ... they use them to find information on a subject that interests them.

Develop good content on a market niche product service or even a passion.

Good relevant content which is optimized correctly on a website causes search engines to find your site and in turn delivers the traffic you need to make sales.

People browsing the web generally have a problem they need a solution for via information leading to your product or service. Good relevent content gain peoples trust by providing them what they are looking for to solve their problem. When you do that your are pre-selling them. When it comes time for them to make a purchasing decision they will buy from you.

If your web site is properly monetized you will not only generate revenue from sales but also from advertising and affiliate programs.

I would disagree as far as the online bit goes althought you could put my list under the general heading of information.

my list is:

1 information
2 to make a purchase
3 to be amused

or if you lump them together it equals problem solving

cheap plastered everywhere!
cheap in the name!
but guess what? it works!
people do want service but the internet is used for searching out the best deals
cheap is a mucky word but we all want it
bad price bad business(unless you have no competition)

Surely you can be the cheapest for a limited time only until the next newbie eCom shop opens and decides to under cut you.

Online, there are always cheaper people, eBay people, people without a clue about pricing/costs, people not paying VAT.

It cannot only come down to price because you are only ever a click away from your cheaper competitor, you have to engender trust too, which means a reasonable looking site that reads like it was written for you and not Google.

That's interesting and you can argue both cases quite effectively all day. For me it all comes down to what I'm making and who am I targeting.

Of course you can sell on "cheap" if that's your target audience. Some people just want a cheap pair of glasses to last a week in Spain. There's always going to be a market (although crowded) for cheap.

I don't think it's quite as easy to sell a cheap service or a cheap quality product to someone who expects a level of quality over time for their investment.

I'd rather have someone to find my site typing in "best seo scotland" rather than "cheap seo scotland", because I am not in the numbers game, and there's potentially more profit in the first search.

I don't mind using Google to tell people this is where to look for cheap seo because the traffic is free but I definitely would not have "cheap seo" as a description of my product or service displayed on my website once a visitor arrived (especially if they are looking for the best).

I'm one of those people who would like to buy something off a professional looking, decent designed website with good sales copy than a site that screams

BUY NOW - NOT CHEAPER ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brand names can get away with it (apart from when it's delivered like Gerald Ratner) :) and established sites with a community but otherwise you might look a bit unprofessional. Paying a bit extra for piece of mind is a valuable thing to a business.

This is where seo can really be useful selling your product online. Effectively you do not need to say it on the page as a phrase to have Google say to a potential customer "check this site for your query, this flags all the correct stuff", just have the words in there somewhere in certain parts of the page ;)

Of course if all your traffic is typing in "cheap" and you're selling cheap **** and making a mint then I commend you you've found your niche.

You may well be " a cheap SEO" I could not possibly comment
but that does not mean you charge any less than other SEO companies.

Now listen very carefully this is how it works:|

I tend to agree with Shaun. I clearly work in a price sensitive market selling high value goods very few of which could be considered an impulse buy. I never use the word "cheap" simply because the suggestion that the word carries is that quality has been comprimised. At the same time I check competitor sites every day to ensure that I'm offering the best possible value for money. That's the phrase that really matters.

How to become rich selling anything? Deliver real value for money.

Many people see advertising their products/ services "cheap" as a swearword.

However, if you were running a PPC campaign and you wanted your ad to stand out amongst the others running down the right side of the computer screen ie you want people to click yours instead of others SURELY SURELY, nearly everyone is going to click on the one that says "cheap" cos everyone, wealthy or not, likes a bargain.

and getting clicks on your ads is the first object of the excercise preaumably, then the work begins!

Right or wrong?

Sainsbury
wal mart



and a few thousand other major retailers :)

Marks and sparks were in serious trouble untill they started "cheap lines"

Now I would agree if you are selling " rolls royces " cheap may not be such a good idea,but "fords" ?

Tesco have a 'value' range, not a 'cheap' range.

We sell Value Costumes, not Cheap costumes. This is because they are good value for money and at under a tenner represent excellent value in terms of cost i.e. they are cheap. But no one wants to put their child in a 'cheap' costume.

If it really just came down to price Aldi would be bigger than Tesco as their products are undenably cheap and often the quality is better than Tesco 'Value' goods.

Also, if all people wanted was cheap cheap cheap why do all the above supermarkets also have lines titled "Finest", "The Best of" ect which are usually in black or silver packaging to indicate that the customer is buying a better quality product and they don't mind paying for it?

Just my two pence worth (cheap at twice the price)

Totally agree. There's a big difference between telling your girlfriend you've bought her a cheap engagement ring and telling her you got a great deal on a gorgeous, top quality engagement ring.

Value for money.

oh blimey hear we go again.
Now does one not hear tesco say they are cheaper than Sainsbury
and aldi say they are the cheapest of all.

One thinks the term "cheap jewellery" is somewhat derogatory

where as "cheap spuds" make excellent chips

this whole topic is becoming somewhat cheap so I shall desist

P.S I only buy my cheap girlfriend value jewellery OK

There's a Comet or PC World TV ad for a laptop at the moment which gives you the full marketing story:

1. you are briefly told the technology and what you can do - appeals to blokes and attempts 'the solutions not features' sell
2. you get the 'new' message in with Vista
3. it's a female assistant selling to a male - so you get the sex sell (little role reversal double entendre too)
4. you get to the price - which is great 'value' if I remember rightly
5. finally you get the special offer - free printer

It's all wrapped up with the big company brand ('you can trust us')

Interesting to count the sales messages.

I reckon it's pretty rare to sell only on cheap. Even with the price comparison web sites selling white goods you have to weigh up whether you'd actually trust buying from the cheapest.

read a PPC ad today which was titled "working to a budget?" I thought that was effective as it could mean anything but mostly means cheap (without saying it!)

Well I call a spade a spade unless it waddles in which case its probably a Duck.

So I pile em high and sell extremely high quality goods CHEAP

If you think the great british public is not wise to all the euphemisms for the word cheap then don't buy anything that is described as good value,working on a budget e.t.c.
Anyhow if yous in PC world you certainly ain't after cheap.

now we are the second largest seller of dolls houses on the internet in the UK .And everything is bleeding CHEAP.CHEAP,CHEAP :D

now I don't want any cheap quips about this post

sirearl, may I ask how you know you are second largest dolls houses seller on the internet? Because I think we'd all like to see how we compare to our competitors.

Also, is that second largest website or second largest in terms of sales?
