Facebook Like or Share or Both on Web Page.

I would say you're best off having both.

Like simply shows the user has engaged with the site, and this activity will show up in their recent activity stream.

However, if the user chooses to Share the page, it will be posted to their wall, and probably become more visible on Facebook.

You're best off having both and giving people the choice!

I must admit I find this all very confusing!!

I've currently got what I believe are "share" logos for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn as provided by AddThis. Reading up on adding the "Like" symbol for Facebook it states

"The Like button itself displays a count of all the likes and shares of the content"

which makes it sound like it is for both likes and shares. I also notice that you have to enter an url to generate it so does that mean a different button on each page. I added the buttons from AddThis to the master page as a specific url wasn't required.
