Choosing a domain name for my freelance site

Ok so I have bitten the bullet and decided to make a real go of my content writing work. I am looking to promote my services that include content writing and link building as a start. Further down the line I hope to be offering more services but as of the moment that's what I'm at.

My question is this, should I market my own name or should I choose a company name? As a writer it's always good to push your own name as much as possible but I am a bit of a crossroads as my main aim is to provide SEO services and perhaps a good company name with some SEO keywords might be better.

I hope I got this in the right forum, it's marketing for my online business (sort of)

It really is how you would like to be known to others as a company as to whether you choose a company name or your own name. What you have to realise is that in circumstances like this once you start to get a name for yourself and become well known it really can be a problem to change your company name without some slight confusion.

I personally myself would choose a company name however make it something involved both with my name and with a company name so that I had both in there, that way I wouldn't have the feeling possibly later on to want to change it and it would also be good for people who use the company to pass on your services to other people they know with a professional company name.

Unless I call myself JoeBloggswritingsolutions I am not sure how to get my name in there. My name is a bit of a mouthful and hard to pronounce and spell.
Do you think it would be a good idea to have one site in mynamedotcom that showcases my writing talents through links to articles I have written and then another site companynamedotcom which I could push all my business traffic to. Running two sites is no big deal as they will both be pretty simple affairs or am I just being silly?:p

I would go with a brand name - think about copy blogger - everyone knows who Darren rouse is.

I see what you mean. Yes it could be a problem if you used your name plus the business name and would also make the domain name difficult to remember which is never good if you want people to remember you.

Having two websites one with your name and one with your business name is an idea however it could also be a problem for your customers or even people who are interested having to go to two websites for your services.

One other option could be to use your business name for your website however maybe have a page on your website that tells people what your name is, what you have to offer and really introducing yourself to your customers and then having your work showcased on the same website, that way people will know your name, associate you with the business name and as you gain more customers the name and the business name stick.

Thanks for the input. I think I will try to come up with a name then go with that and as you said make sure my name and info is easily found somewhere on the site.

Ok so here is my next question :)

What is your opinion on names that are catchy yet completely unrelated to the field. Copy Blogger is an excellent name and tells you exactly what you're going to find on the site. But I know of a company providing writing services that call themselves Ninja creative, it's a great name and very easy to remember but it could easily be anything at all from toilet seat innovations to fashion design.

You are welcome :)

I myself on numerous occasions have come across websites with a name and because of the name I have thought it was another kind of website and was quite surprised by the result. I don't feel there is any kind of problem with having a catchy name that is unrelated as long as when the visitor comes to the website they are greeted with what you do have to offer and they can easily see what your website is about. Sometimes catchy names are well remembered aswell which could benefit you in the long run.
