Size of a header banner

Hi all,

I am getting a header banner made for my website (not yet created). The designer is asking for an exact size for the banner to be created. I have asked for the final product to be vector scalable, so does this matter?

I was originally going to design the site myself, but have decided to outsource this (post appearing in tenders soon). So would a professional site designer have any particular requirements with regards to size/format of graphics to be used on the site?

Any comments/help would be appreciated.

It depends by what you mean header banner. If you mean for advertising your site on other sites, then 468x60 is the standard size.

If you mean for your website, the people designing your website would do this for you:)

Hi,
I am referring to the graphics at the top of the page, typically where websites have their logo and name etc.
If the designer is going to do this, then does that mean that it doesn't matter what size the graphics are when I receive them from the person designing them?

Maybe you should consider getting the website structure in place first, then see what size header you'll need. Otherwise it sounds like you're buying tyres before picking out a car.
