Anyone else have hosting and email with 1and1? Email has been down since about 1.30pm and tech support are constantly engaged. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Same with Lee. Very slow and downloading crashed outlook but all is fine now.

Are you accessing the webmail through your cp or downloading in Outlook or something? You might want to try and email them through your control panel.

I don't know why they don't have a status thing so at least we know that they know there is a problem!

I sent myself a test message about ten minutes ago from a webmail address and it has not arrived in Outlook. Eventually gained access to webmail through the CP and it's not on the server.

Nigel - this is the first time I've had problems in around three years and I've always been able to get hold of tech support when I've wanted to.

coxadmin! I'm going to have to join you! mines packed up too! :D

20.00: Outlook doesn't crash anymore when send/receiving but I just placed a test order at my site and it does download to the cart software but the email notification doesn't work! :(

20.02: Yipee some spam downloaded, just one mind, but no order

I have been with them for a few years with a short break in between where my site went down for half an hour. Hope this is sorted soon. Did you try email them through the control panel coxadmin??

I just remembered that when setting up my email addresses I set them up so that a copy would go to another email address that had nothing to do with 1&1 and the emails are there.

Might be worth setting it up when it's all working again or even now if you can.

Thanks - I tried to set up forwarding to another email address but it kept logging me out :(. However now it is all working again I am going to do that.

It is a bit slow still but things are loading and emails do get to me after a slight delay.

Regarding my posts above I did get some useful information at the bottom of my automated reply, telling their was a problem with mail server etc. And something on the Register about it.

It would be useful, as I suggested in my support ticket to have a server status type thing that we can access from teh main site to see if they are experiencing any problems.

As usual, this suggestion was commented on in their reply:

"We are currently experiencing some technical issue with our mailservers.
Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated timeframe for its resolution
however rest assured that our administrators are already working to have
this issue resolved as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for all
the inconvenience that this has given you and thank you for bearing with
us."

I know what you mean, but I like their control panel and did move away from them but had to move back (matrixxhosting). TBH I have not experienced much downtime with the site, maybe half hour over past few years. The support varies but I'm not going to waste more money moving until I really have to this time.

After the problems I had earlier this week I set up a similar system, which is working, but it's very inconvenient.

I'm considering a change of website and email host.

If this isn't resolved soon, I may start to consider moving my hosting.

Hi Lynn,
Is this still happening? I've got no probs - and I'm not being smug. I use Outlook Express but also divert some web domain mail through to Yahoo! and that works all ok as well. I wonder if there's an operating difference between Outlook and Outlook Express.

More curious than anything as to why some are affected (infected?) and I'm not.

Cheers, Nigel

Yep Im with one and one too, been with them for many many years and have a boat load of domains and few problems. That said this week email has been horrific for me also. Problems receiving mail or it turns up late or webmail out of action. Luckily I bounce mails to my main domain to hotmail so I dont miss anything but they must be having major problems and hopefully they will sort it soon.

I'm totally losing my patience

To make matters worse I'm baby sitting my mum in laws email account while she's out of the country on business and she gets 200-300 a day so getting behind is a nightmare.

The phone lines are still in melt down ... haven't got through once over the whole fiasco.

They could put some information on their web site so we know where we stand ... but we can't go frightening of new customers can we! Never mind looking after the existing ones

I had no idea they had several hundred servers ... what's going on then?

I've been wondering about changing host too ... everyone's entitled to their problems it's how they deal with them that counts and customer service gets a big thumbs down here.

The only thing is who to move to ... don't all hosts experience problems at some point?

Too tired to get my head round it tonight ... off to bed.

Considering 1and1 are one of the biggest hosts in the world - and have several hundred if not thousands of servers they should have some redundancy. All web hosts experience problems, we do occasionally but they are fixed in minutes rather than days and customers are kept informed via a server status page.

1and1 are known for their problems and rubbish customer service yet people still host with them :(

Phone support is rubbish.

I asked about this in a recent 'support ticket' to them. First time they ignored it and second time this:

As of the moment we don't have that feature yet in our hosting packages.
However I find it good and will be forwarding it to our admins as a
suggestion to improve our service.

Something like this wouldn't put me off. At least it shows that they do communicate when there are problems. Tiscali have something on their website re ISP things!

If you really do want to move, there are some forum regulars on here such as csncarl and openmind who seem committed to giving customer service and have recommendations from other members.

Nigel, you're in the same boat as my dad - he's not affected. The strangest thing of all is that my sister's website and email is on my dad's account and she's affected and he's not!

I managed to get into the Control Panel (even that is intermittent) and set up mail forwarding to a web based email address on Tuesday or Wednesday after a client's urgent email didn't reach me soon enough.

Do you have your mum-in-law's account details so you could do that as a short term measure?

My email is down to, although I have set it to redirect to another email address and this is still continuing to work. The website is running normally so that fine for me atm.

Just make sure that you choose a good host as if this happens again with the new host you will change again!

I did get this different reply in the auto reply:

A number of UK customers have experienced some delays in receiving inbound email. Following an important update to our mail server software and the subsequent restart of the mail servers, there have unfortunately been delays in the delivery of incoming email to 1&1 mail boxes.

Any current delay in incoming emails will decrease as full service is restored and emails are delivered.

Emails have been queued and stored and no email will be lost. The outgoing email services are not affected.
