Links from private forums, blogs etc

Hi,

I have noticed recently that I am getting traffic from links placed on some relevant private forums and blogs (i.e. forums and blogs that are only accessible by registered users). Being private I don't think the content of these websites are being indexed by search engines. This is probably a silly question but do these links count as 'links' for search engines? The traffic is showing up in Analytics and they are very relevant but you just can't see them unless registered.

Thanks

Mick

+ve by sending you traffic so smiles all round.

Not ever experienced mass traffic from any forum, and if you like tons of links from one source - then forums are for you

Most visits from a general directory we got was 24 in one month, a link exchange got us 54 visits and just got 300 visits today from an unknown source/s. So based on that, suggest links and content is the way to go.

Still trying to suss out this Twitter thing - uncertain about it, but more confident about biz blogging.

As Red says above, if it is driving traffic to your site, then great. Check out things like time on site, and make sure they are not just hotlinking to images etc, and that it is genuine traffic. But it is for free, and even though it isn't a 'link', it could well result in links from other sources as a result of people having visited via the original link.
